Saturday Night Live season 9
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Saturday Night Live aired its ninth season during the 1983 - 1984 television season on NBC. With the exception of hiring (and firing, then rehiring) Jim Belushi (brother of late SNL castmember John Belushi), there were no other cast additions. There were many castmembers leaving this season: Eddie Murphy (whose last episode was only five episodes away from the season finale) was the first to leave to pursue a movie career. Following him were Robin Duke, Tim Kazurinsky, Joe Piscopo, and Brad Hall (who was replaced midseason on Saturday Night News by a revolving door of other anchors, mostly Joe Piscopo, and anyone who hosted the show at the time). Future castmember Billy Crystal hosted twice this season: once with musical guest Al Jarreau and again on the season finale with Ed Koch, Edwin Newman, Betty Thomas, and former castmember Don Novello.
The ninth season started on October 8, 1983 and ended on May 12, 1984.
