[edit] Background
Satomi is a young woman who lives with her younger brother Daisuke (their parents died in a traffic accident). She earns money for living expenses and school tuition by working part-time jobs while caring for Daisuke. She goes to the same school as Yuka and also trains in the same dojo as she does; as a result, they are good friends and share a friendly rivalry. While she is an honest, straightforward person, she is also practical and realistic when it comes to situations involving money. This is because they have no other living relatives to provide for them, Satomi is often forced to take various odd jobs simply in order to make ends meet.
[edit] Fictional Character History
[edit] Advanced V.G.
Daisuke has contracted a terminal illness, and only a very expensive operation can save his life. Satomi enters the V.G. tournament in hopes of using the prize money to aid her ailing sibling. During the course of the tournament, Satomi is introduced to several fighters, among whom is Ayako Yuuki, who expresses a romantic interest in Satomi. Satomi however, balks at the idea of a lesbian relationship. She eventually faces Yuka, who defeats her. However, Daisuke is shown in later games as being fully recovered, which would mean that Yuka either defaulted the champisonship to Satomi, or gave her the prize money to save her brother's life.
[edit] Advanced V.G. 2
Daisuke has made a full recovery, and Satomi now has steady employment as the manager of the karate dojo where she and Yuka trained. She also helps out at the elementary school that Daisuke attends. Satomi plans to enter the new V.G. tournament in hopes of renewing her rivalry with Yuka, whom she hadn't seen since the previous tournament ended. but while staying in a hotel, meets a young girl whom Satomi feels looks exactly like a younger version of Yuka herself. She and the girl, Tamao Mitsurugi introduce themselves and decide to have a friendly sparring match. Although Satomi has the advantage of experience on her side, Tamao proves to be too strong for her. Upon hearing that Tamao is looking for Yuka so that she can ask her to become her teacher in the martial arts, Satomi gives Tamao a clue on where Yuka might be located. Satomi later presides over the fight between Tamao and Yuka that occurs at the Hanna Miller's restaurant, becoming shocked when Tamao taps her latent powers to send Yuka's Kikoudan attack back at her.
Satomi, along with Jun Kubota, Kyoko Kirishima, Reimi Jahana, and Kaori Yanase turn up at an airfield following Yuka and Tamao's confrontation with Reimi's mother and the true power behind the V.G. tournament, Miranda Jahana. After being defeated, Miranda attempts to escape in a private jet, but is foiled when Satomi and the others combine their powers into a large blast that destroys the jet, Miranda, and apparently Chiho Masuda, who had sneaked on board in an attempt to assassinate Miranda before she could get away, but failed. However, when Satomi attends a funeral in Chiho's honor a few days later, she appears standing behind Tamao, alive and well.

[edit] Other Appearances
Satomi is also a playable character in V.G. 2: Bout of Cabalistic Goddess, Super V.G., V.G. Custom, and V.G. Max, all of which occur outside of the regular series' canon.
[edit] Variable Geo OVA
Satomi appears as one of the main characters in a three-part OVA series loosely based on Super Variable Geo, where she is voiced by veteran seiyuu Yuko Miyamura. As in the games, she and Yuka are best friends and are shown as having a kind of spiritual or psychic bond. However, she initially does not take part in the V.G. tournament as she is too busy caring for Daisuke, who as in the early games is suffering from an unnamed illness. She also feels that she cannot possibly defeat Yuka, who bested her years before in competitions where Satomi had previously taken first place.
She is first seen during the series' opening match pitting Yuka against wrestler Jun Kubota. When Yuka almost loses the match, Satomi cheers intensely for her friend to rally. Yuka feels Satomi's determination and stages a daring comeback, leading her to victory. Afterwards, Satomi and Yuka visit a hospital where Daisuke is shown to be ill, but in a stable condition. When a sudden spasm causes the presiding doctor to resort to an expensive operation that Satomi can not possibly afford, She is approached by Damien, a member of the Jahana group (the organization which presides over the V.G. Tournament) who agrees to pay for the operation -In actuality, he had ordered his subordinate Siritahi to poison Daisuke, worsening his condition so that Satomi would be forced to accept his assistance- on the condition that Satomi join the V.G. tournament and become a subject for his experiments, which were secretly a part of Project: Black Goddess, the true purpose of which was to resurrect Jahana's former leader, Miranda Jahana by implanting her spirit into a suitable body.
Satomi accepts the offer, partially due to Damien inciting her with the possibility of finally being able to defeat Yuka. She then participes in the tournament, facing Ayako Yuuki. Although Satomi was initially overwhelmed by Ayako's swift movements and flirtations, Satomi recalled her dedication to saving her brother and finally defeating Yuka, and thus managed to rally and defeat Ayako. Some time later, she is forced to fight against Chiho Matsuda, who is attempting to flee the Jyahana building after learning of Project: Black Goddess. After a brief struggle, Satomi defeats Chiho - Due to Damien using a form of selective mind control at opportune moments - and both are completely brainwashed.
During the final stages of the tournament, Damien invites Kaori Yanase into an unofficial match, which he claims is for the purpose of mutual data collection. At this point, Satomi is seen connected to a cybernetic device which further enhances her abilities and allows Miranda's spirit to begin controlling her directly. In this state, Satomi easily defeats Kaori. When Miranda's daughter and reigning V.G. champion Reimi Jyahana arrives on the scene to confront the project members and confirm her suspicions, Satomi attacks her. Although Reimi appears to initially be in control of the ensuing fight, Miranda's spirit fully manifests itself in Satomi and forces the activation of a device implanted in Reimi years earlier, thus incapacitating her.
In the series' climax, the Miranda-Satomi entity is confronted by Yuka. Miranda states that Satomi's body is insufficient to hold her power and delivers an ultimatum to Yuka: Either allow Miranda to use her body instead, or watch as Satomi dies. However, Yuka frees Satomi from the apparatus which binds Miranda's soul to her body, undoing Damien's brainwashing as a result. Satomi and Yuka then deliever a final blow, destroying the apparatus and forcing Miranda's spirit back into it's interim container, a white rose, which is subsequently destroyed by a now freed Reimi. As the building they are in is engulfed in a series of explosions, Yuka and Satomi face each other in the match they have always wanted. Satomi inquires if the loser of this match will be forced to strip naked, to which Yuka only replies that the winner will get the ten-billion Yen reward for winning the tournament. The two charge each other smiling as the series ends.
[edit] Trivia
- Satomi resembles and may somewhat be a parody of Ken Masters of Street Fighter fame. Several facts contribute to the idea: both have similar fire-based techniques (Although Ken generally only uses flames when performing Shoryuuken-based techniques. Satomi uses flame manipulation in almost all of her attacks, making her style more reminiscent of that used by Kyo Kusanagi). Also, her relationship with Yuka Takeuchi mirrors that of Ken's with Ryu.
- Another comparison can be made in the portrayal of both characters in anime. in the Variable Geo OVA series, Satomi is brainwashed and has her power augmented by the main villain. A similar fate befalls Ken in Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie.
- The name of Satomi's restaurant, Bikkuri Monkey, is a parody of the real-life Japanese restaurant chain Bikkuri Donkey.
