Satish Kaushik is an Indian film director and actor in Hindi films and theatre. He directed Salman Khan's hit film Tere Naam (2003).
As a film actor his most remembered for his role as 'Calendar' in Mr. India [1], and as 'Chanu Ahmed' in Sarah Gavron's English film Brick Lane (2007). He was also won Filmfare Best Comedian Award twice in 1990 for film Ram Lakhan and 1997 for Saajan Chale Sasural.
As theatre actor his most known role is that of 'Willy Loman' in Hindi play 'Salesman Ramlal, an adaptation of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman [2].
As a dialogue writer he wrote dialogues for Kundan Shah's comedy classic Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron (1983).

[edit] Early life and education
Satish Kaushik was born on April 13 in Delhi, where he grew up in Naiwala gali, Karolbagh. He did his graduation from Kirori Mal College, New Delhi (1972-75).
He graduated from National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi in 1978 and later studied at Film and Television Institute of India Pune.
Satish Kaushik is now on the board of Asian Academy Of Film & Television.

Satish Kaushik started his career as an assistant director to Shekhar Kapoor in film Masoom (1983), this was also his first film as an actor.
His first film as director Sridevi starrer Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja (1993) and his second, Prem (1995), which was supposed to be Tabu's launch film, both were box-office disasters [3], yet he continued his film making and finally got his first hit with Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehate Hain in 1999.
He was co-wrote and anchor a TV countdown show, 'Philips Top Ten' for which he won the Screen Videocon Award.
In 2007, Anupam Kher, who was his batchmate at NSD [4], started a new film production company, along with Satish Kaushik, 'Karol Bagh Productions', and their first film, 'Tere Sang', is being directed by Satish Kaushik [5].
Currently, he is set direct a remake of film Karz (1980) with Himesh Reshammiya [6].
