Satellite Island

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Satellite Island lies in Prevost Harbor on the north side of Stuart Island in the San Juan Islands of San Juan County, Washington, USA. It has a land area of 0.471 km² (116.42 acres) and no resident population as it is a private island owned by the YMCA, which has three camping areas set up for its use. One is used for overnight island trips by campers from YMCA Camp Orkila, while the other two are used for mooring Orkila's sailing fleet and as a base camp for teen kayaking expeditions that cross into Canada's Gulf Islands.

There are 4 different sites on the island. Sunset Camp is located on the Western half of the island, and is used primarily by Traditional Camp programs arriving from YMCA Camp Orkila. Fellowship is also on the west side of the island, and is also used by Traditional camps. Islander Camp is located on the east side of the island, and is used primarily by the Islander Teen Expedition, a kayaking trip for teenagers. The last camp is Mariner Camp, also located on the East side of the island, which is used by the Mariner Teen Expedition, a sailing trip for teenagers.
