SATEC@W.A. Porter C.I. is a secondary school located in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. The school is a high tech academy that offers a unique and challenging academic program. It is a part of the Toronto District School Board. Due to the uniforms and other uniform infraction related punishments, the school is exceeding the expectations of the TDSB, and mostly goes without any violence or incidence[citation needed]. The school will also be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2008.
[edit] SATEC
SATEC stands for the Scarborough Academy for Technological, Environmental and Computer education. Entrance into the school has been a tough process in the last few years because there is high demand for this type of education and consequently large number of applications are received each year. Admission entries into the 2006-2007 school was around 600 plus and less than 175 were chosen. SATEC offers courses such as CISCO Networking (the head instructor was honoured as the best instructor in Ontario at one point and awarded the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence), Computer Engineering, Technical Design, Computers in Music and more. Since these changes have been implemented, SATEC has become one of the top schools in Toronto.
SATEC offers an exciting challenge through innovative programs that combine rigorous academics with an in-depth and hands-on application of technology. Students that complete seven magnet related courses receive the SATEC Magnet Program certificate upon graduation (although many graduates have never heard of such program). SATEC is a CISCO regional academy. The unique senior (Gr.11&12) program includes certification in CISCO Networking. The school also offers enrichment mathematics courses to its students in grade 10 and 11.
[edit] School Trivia
