Satchel (bag)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A satchel is a bag used by many people to carry books, and other objects in. It has one, sometimes two, large straps that goes over one shoulder and across the body. Many students use them at universities and colleges. Like all bags, satchels are easily customised with patches and various other creative textiles.

[edit] History

It is unknown when the satchel was first invented, but it is believed to have originated as a small purse or "carry-sack" for women in the Middle Ages. It has existed for centuries and pre-dates the now common backpack.
