Category talk:Satellite operators

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This category was created as a result of not really being able to find a satisfactory category for the JSAT Corporation article. Looking through various articles, most satellite operating companies seem to have been classed under the category of 'Communications satellites'. However this has, in my opinion, two faults - 1. The 'Communications satellites' category would, in my opinion (again), be more suited to categorising the satellites themselves, rather than the companies that operate them, and 2. that category doesn't really seem applicable for non-communications satellites (e.g. weather or military satellites - or even the Hubble space telescope). There is a category of 'Telecommunications companies' which might be suitable for some, but doesn't really imply any major use of satellites, seems to be linked again to a primary role as a 'communications' company, and would seem to exclude operators that aren't companies (e.g. the military or non-profit organisations). However, I am (as always) happy for this category to be removed if considered unnecessary or an example of over-categorisation. :-) CultureDrone (talk) 18:50, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Of course, one reason for removal might be that the word 'satellite' might be too open to interpretation for accurate categorisation :-) CultureDrone (talk) 18:53, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
