[edit] More style notes
Note that the ndash is not to be used in phrases like "Greco-Roman". It should only be used to indicate a closed range, such as 205 BC–212 BC. Speaking of which, though this is not a requirement, I strongly recommend using AD/BC terminology instead of CE/BCE. It's much more common, especially among laypeople, and Wikipedia is written for laypeople, not for scholars (or anti-Christian activists). Additionally, it avoids propagating the POV that the Christian erra is for some reason the "Common Era". Also, it's shorter, especially when dealing with BC dates (BCE adds the unnecessary extraneous "E" letter), and, the final nail in the coffin: because it's so much more common, it's the system Wikipedia actually uses for all of its date pages—7th century BCE is just a redirect to 7th century BC. Ergo, to avoid unnecessary redirects (a good idea when you get a chance; burying the real link is better than forcing a redirect), you'd have to go to the trouble of typing [[7th century BC|7th century BCE]] (or the obnoxious [[7th century BC]]E) to properly use BCE/CE terminology. Really and truly not worth the trouble. In future articles, the best way to go is with the most common English dating system, not a much less common one fabricated recently by the Political Correctness police. PC and NPOV are not the same.
Anyway, sorry for that rant, you're doing great job on the articles you're working on! The only reason I give you these minor style criticisms is because I think you're one of the best editors Wikipedia's got, so I want you to stick around for a long time and spread some important Style guidelines along with the great content you bring to the table. -Silence 11:10, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
- I removed the – used in compound modifiers. But I don't think there is issue with BCE/CE, for the reasons I gave on the Saffron talk page. You could, of course, give a response to my remarks and I might still change my mind ... Anyway, thanks. Saravask 21:10, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Saffron map
Hi Saravask - very nice map! Was just wondering - could Alaska be de-coloured? (yes, it is part of the US, but I'd be pretty sure there's no saffron produced there, and it does look odd having it coloured!); and maybe England should be coloured (re Saffron Walden: mostly historical, but I think still grown there on a 'micro' scale for the tourists to see) - Happy Christmas, MPF 22:42, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Kerala Map
Hi, I noticed that the Kerala map that you put in the Kerala page has been removed and you have copied the contends to your sandbox. I liked the colouring scheme that you used in that map, but the boundaries of the states in your map are not accurate. In case you plan to work on the map more you could use the previous map as the base map(which shows the boundaries accurately). Thanks and Regards. --Raghu 19:06, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, I did use Nichalp's map as my base. If you could point out my errors, that'd be great. Thanks. Saravask 19:24, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
- The errors are not huge, only approximation errors. For example in the case of eastern boundary of Kerala, there is a small horn like part pointing upwards in the middle but in your map it is a little rounded and pointing towards right. Thanks --Raghu 03:28, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
- LOL. Yes, I see. Probably made those errors as a result of the eye strain I got when drawing that map. I'll try and take care of them. Saravask 04:12, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox
Hello there.. you may have had a look at the template used for U.S. states or England or States and territories of Australia. Its a fairly elaborate yet simplistic design (with no colors except for the gray bg - always difficult to get a consensus on the color anyway). Am not suggesting an exact copy or the use of all the parameters listed there for the template you are working on. But I think its a good baseline. The (M:F) ratio (and other things as well) if not available could remain blank, as it happens in a standard template. Cheers! --ΜιĿːtalk 09:32, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] FAC and peer review
To put up an article for FAC, you have to add it in Wikipedia:Featured article candidates too. Similarly for Peer review, you have to add it in Wikipedia:Peer_review#Requests. I have done the latter. It might be better to wait for the review comments before going for FAC. A mention in Wikipedia:Notice_board_for_India-related_topics will also help. Tintin Talk 23:23, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

I applaud you for your industrious editing of Kerala for example, but you have managed to fill up the edit history which makes it more difficult to figure out what is what. [edit] Chavez vote
I must say I agree with you on the change, but not for your reason. Not all those who choose not to vote are "lazy" etc., etc. That's pretty mean-spirited, and in fact incorrect. There are people who choose not to participate in a political contest out of fear, ignorance, difficulty in reaching the polls, or as a rejection of what they may see as a corrupt and useless system, as well as out of apathy or laziness. However, "abstain" is also incorrect as this has a technical meaning in a political context. "Non-voting" is probably the simplest one-word replacement.
- It was not meant as a racist comment — it was meant in the sense of noting people who "couldn't be bothered to vote" (as said on the talk page) or, like you stated, do not have the means or are disgusted by Chavez or the corrupt system. Saravask 07:47, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Dear Saravask,
First of all, I say I'm no native speaker, but I'm sure that [benesuela] is the correct IPA pronunciation for Venezuela in Spanish, even if there is no strange symbol like in English transcription. Spanish has more simple sounds, what can I do?
Secondly, I've added spanish pronunciation after the English one, as you said.
Finally, I'll invite you to join a discussion about pronunciation guidelines I've just started at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (pronunciation). I do agree that English pronunciation is important, but native one is essencial. Bye. José San Martin 23:40, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cuisine of Kerala
Kerala is a short article, well below the length recommended for subdividing the article. Cuisine of Kerala is even shorter. It is irrelevant whether there are 31 million people in Kerala or whether there is a notable food culture. What is relevant is that these two articles belong together in one. Fragmentation is sometimes necessary but never good. I trust that if you see it so important that this article remain separate from the main Kerala article, you will do something to make it less of a stub. Denni ☯ 02:40, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] IPA for "Chavez"
You are a little distrustful, aren't you? You're right, this is probably the best way to proceed here in Wikipedia and especially in featured article (by the way, congrats for it!).
Indeed, my IPA was a bit wrong. Just for a single character I mistyped (first e in Rafael is actually an a). The right IPA for Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias is: ['ugo rafa'el 'tʃabes 'fɾias]
First I have to say you that the English pronunciation there is actually the Spanish name pronounced by an English speaker. That's why you may say that I can definitively say that the first IPA is the Spanish-language pronunciation. The sounds are more or less the same, since a name can't be translated. Yet, the transcription ['ugo(ʊ) ˌɹɑfe(ɪ)'ɛl 'tʃɑbɪz 'fɹiɪs] came from an English throat. Native Spanish speakers (I can't say surely, but I think that Spanish speakers living in a foreign country can be a little contaminated), they don't know the sounds ʊ, ɹ, ɑ, ɪ, ɛ. Each language has its own set of sounds (and I dare say you have a very uncommon one).
So, you would never found the spanish sounds I used in my transcription, since they are not English sounds and thus they are not in the IPA chart for English. This article has nothing but the English sounds. Contrarely, the International Phonetic Alphabet article contains every sound existent in IPA, not only the English ones. You may know that there are sounds in Spanish that we don't in our own native languages. And vice-versa, of course.
You will have better resources in Spanish phonology, that contains all the simbols I used for Spanish transcription (remember I'm adopting latin-american pronunciation, not Spanish one). I also recomend omniglot. If you want to learn something about your vowels, this article is a great stuff: Great Vowel Shift. It explains why your vowels became so different from the next relatives of English.
Would you like a closer explanation of the sounds? English speakers will pronounce Spanish [o] as [oʊ]. You pronounce a longer vowel, and put a 'tail' in it. The rolled Spanish [r] (a strong r, like the slavic 'r' or 'r' in begin of Italian words) you will pronounce as {ɹ. It is also a little hard to you pronounce the vowel [a], that is used in almost every language in the world. It's the same open 'a' that german, portuguese, italian and french people have. Perhaps some people in US pronounce the 'a' in father as [a]. That [(ɪ)] is completely English and will never appear in any Spanish throat (or even in many throats arounds the world). [ɛ] is also a sound that doesn't exist in Spanish (even it does exists in Portuguese, French, Italian). They prefer use [e]. They also use [i] instead of [ɪ]. And the [ɪ] in frias is far from the native pronunciation. They say [a] in every letter <a>. And there's no [z] , just [s]. Finally, the sound {[ɾ] is like a shorter [r] and appears, for example, in Japanese 'r', and in Portuguese and Italian in the middle of the words.
Now will you keep my transcription in the article? I'm also writing transcriptions in the latin-american countries articles and you would be very glad if you could provide English transcription for them. (I assure you that, for a foreigner, Spanish transcription are much more easy to do than the English one. They are pretty complicated).
Best regards,
José San Martin 00:15, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chetwynd, British Columbia
Thanks for coming to my rescue with the copyediting. To answer the inline comments:
- it was "livable", good catch.
- was the post the very first instance of non-Indian habitation? Permanent habitation, yes. Nomadic Aboriginals (the Beaver) travelled through between Moberly Lake (and a trading post in Hudson's Hope) to the north and Gwilim Lake (and other spots) to the south. White explorers (like Henry Moberly and John Gwillim and surveyors searching the Rocky Mountains for a way through) also passed through but none stayed. And yes, this may be better suited for the history section. I am totally re-thinking that whole culture section. The gist of what I want to say is that their culture involves
-
-
- longing for the golden age (they've been stagnat for the past 20 years but remember the innocent farming age and the subsequent economic boom from mega-projects)
- public art (chainsaw carvings, Little Giant statue)
- community organized activities (winter lights programs)
- outdoor recreation (a community surrounded by mountains, lakes and forest).
-
- Daylight savings: At the extreme, the summer sun rises at about 3-4am and sets at about 11pm. At the winter extrmeme, the sun rises about 9-10am and sets at about 4pm. The rest of the year, the times are always changing to make it between these wide extremes. An hour here or there from Daylight Savings doesn't mean much since everybody is wake all "day" during the winter, and asleep all "night" during the winter. As for why MST like Alberta, and not PST like the rest of B.C., historically, the Peace River area (a major farming area) acted as a natural extention of the Alberta prairies so all the settlers came via Alberta. The Rocky Mountains (separating Chetwynd and northeastern B.C. from the rest of B.C.) was not pierced until 1958, decades after the area was settled.
- "at-large": At-large means elected by the entire population - everybody gets 6 votes in order to have a six member council elected. An alternative would be breaking the town into wards where there are a bunch of mini-elections, one in each neighbourhood, and the winners come together to form a council. It is one of those made-up terms social scientists utilize to make their area of study sound complicated and important. --maclean25 19:11, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
Is "Chetwynd" pronounced as in "jet" and "wind" ("jet-wind")?
- It is pronounced "chet" and "wind" ("chet-wind")
What is the adjective for Chetwynd residents - is it "Chetwyndians"?
- I have absolutely no idea. I have only ever heard people saying "...from Chetwynd." I do not recall ever reading anything like "Chetwyndians" or "Chetwyndites" (and neither get relevant google hits).
Is there an exact figure available for this?
- Concerning male-female income gap, the exact (2001, averaged) figures are given in the next sentence. I figure we can just subtract the males' $42,426 from females' $19,396 to get $23,030 (more than double!) --maclean25 01:39, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
--maclean25 01:39, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
- I did some work on the Chetwynd, British Columbia#Culture and recreation section. Can you please take a look at it? Is it better or should I revert? Thanks. --maclean25 05:27, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
I didn't remove any info but I did give the text a good work over and displaced some parts to other paragraphs (I hope it is still recognizable). I re-wrote to form a more thematic approach. With the "Culture" section my goal is to discuss what the residents are involved in artistically or recreationally (if those are words). I separated the paragraphs by theme beginning with heritage/museum (once I actually go there in the spring I'll expanded those two sentences) followed by public art (statue, chainsaw carvings, and winter lights displays) and outdoor recreation. Then media is thrown on to the bottom because I don't know where else to put it.
For the "Geography" section I consolidated the land/agricultural aspects into the first paragraph, followed by hydrology, then animal/vegetation aspects, then climate. It all made sense in my head so I would like to know if it makes sense to others, as well. Thank you for all the time you have been putting into this. --maclean25 01:40, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

My RfA recently closed and it was a success, passing at 84-02-00. I would like to thank you for taking the time to weigh in and on your subsequent support. And I know it's quite cliche, but if you ever need any assistance and/or want another opinion on something, grab a Pepsi and don't hesitate to drop me a line on my talk page. Thanks again. [edit] Hi
Hi! Thanks for your help in the Kolkata page. I really did not notice that Rabindranath Tagore was undergoing a peer review and was getting readied for FAC. The article is very good. Bye the way, there has started some activities on Satyajit Ray as well !--Dwaipayanc 09:02, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Something for you
[edit] Excellent work
I have changed my conditional support to support for Rabindranath Tagore article. Good job. I should go figure out how to give barnsters so I can give you one. In the talk page of this article, I have made a detailed post about what I think can be shortened in works section with sample replacements. I hope it helps with summarizing the article as it is the only thing that can prevent this from becoming FA. I would strongly suggest advertising the FA candidancy of the article to other users so that you can get more supports. Good luck! --Blacksun 00:00, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi Saravask - I know you're busy with Tagore, but I request your help on an effort to make this article an FA. I know you can really help us solve some serious problems and add reliable info. Please check it out whenever convenient. Rama's Arrow 16:13, 12 April 2006 (UTC)S
[edit] Signature
Hi! Yes I remember that I uploaded the signarure. But cannot remember the source now! However, this is the signature that appears everywhere, I mean, on the cover of all the books published by Vishwa Varati. In fact, this is perhaps the only Bengali signature that is widely known to the public. I remember I knew the signature from my childhood! It will be difficult to arrive at a particular date/ year. Probably this was the source. Sorry that I could not help you much. Bye.--Dwaipayanc 18:19, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
- I think you can change the caption to "The most widely known Bengali signature of Tagore appearing in the covers of his works published by Visva Bharti", or something like that. Ot sounds a bit weird though!--Dwaipayanc 18:26, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Whew!!
I just read Rabindranath Tagore totally. And I tell you, I was speechless. BRILLIANT. Absolutely wonderful. It is a great example of tireless work. You deserve a lot more than just barnstars! Thanks a lot for such an article. Bye.--Dwaipayanc 19:16, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

- I over-agree with Dwaipayanc. You've really done a fabulous job! I took those pictures in Ahmedabad becoz I explicitly remembered that you were expanding the article. I can use all the help you can give on Jinnah - its a complicated and controversial topic and I can't do it without your advice. The article is under-going a lot of construction, so most of the reviewing and critiques will come later I guess. Cheers, Rama's Arrow 20:31, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

- However, do lend a hand in upgrading India. I've noted that a lot of articles that became FAs before 2005 need upgrading, or else will fall victim to FARCs. Rama's Arrow 20:33, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Well, the comment was there from many months! It is difficult to get a reference. Ar best argumentative culture of India as a whole can be referenced as in here.

Yo - if you have time, please check out this article again. I've done a lot of re-writing and citing. Your opinion at this stage is key for FAC. Rama's Arrow 20:01, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Saravask - thanks for your help on Jinnah. I hope I haven't offended you by opposing your criticism of having Patel's bio as a primary ref. In any case, I've added refs from Ayesha Jalal's book and I'm looking for more. What is your opinion of having citations from a Pakistani newspaper chronicle and the government of Pakistan website? Are these reliable sources if their POV is duly left out? Rama's Arrow 15:24, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi - Jinnah is FAC. I decided to move on FAC becoz I believe that all remaining objective criticism will only be obtained there. I ask for your support and welcome all criticism. Rama's Arrow 15:03, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Coordinates
Hi! You added the coordinates template to Kolkata. However, the coordinates you added are not exactly matching with coordinates given within the body of the article. Can you please tell where did you get those coordinates from? If you think that your source is very reliable, please feel free to change the coordinates within the body of the article accordingly. I am thinking about FAC on and from Monday! Thanks. Bye.--Dwaipayanc 20:36, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
- Well, the coordinates really do not match. The infobox says 22.82° N 88.20° E while the template says 22°49′12″N, 88°12′00″E. So the "minutes" are different. Now, that depends on where exactly the source measured. "Seconds" change at a distance of metres! And I do not know really at which point the coordinates of Kolkata are measured. I am really sorry for bothering you with this minor detail. --Dwaipayanc 05:32, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- Ok. I depended on Google Earth to finalise the coordinates. Obviously it depends on where you measure in a big city like Kolkata. The zero point (The Raj Bhavan) was the place I thought would be best for coordinates. In fact, it nearly tallies with most sources. BTW, Kolkata is FAC.--Dwaipayanc 18:15, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Two honors and one for you
Hi Saravask - you have done me a very great honor. The Featured Article Medal is something I had hoped to get eventually...one day...after writing 5-6 FAs....maybe. I thought it was very fitting that Deeptrivia gave you an FAM given your extensive success in writing FAs. This medal means a lot, and I thank you very deeply and strongly. Writing FAs is my passion here, and I hope to do many more in May. I've always admired your FAs for being so good over so diverse subject matter - from Kerala to Chavez to Tagore, its wonderful how well you adapt to either subject - I'm extremely overjoyed that a true FA master has given me the medal.
You have also done me a great honor in proposing to nominate me for adminship. I cannot go for an RfA right now, because I need to work on my weaknesses. I need to put in more effort in changing my temperament, get a better understanding of Wikipedia's workings, and help out in adminship-type jobs. Plus the editor review is on-going, and I must wait for anybody else's observations. I want to give myself a month to tune up.
But when speaking of who's ready for adminship, you have for some reason underrated yourself. Apart from being a dedicated page builder and FA master, you have a helpful and positive temperament, extensive experience and assiduous nature that an admin must have. I was just thinking of you two days ago when I thought upon the topic of new admins. I honestly feel you should join serve as a protector of Wikipedia's quality - it will complete you as a Wikipedian. Even as you create works of quality, you will be protecting the efforts of others. Being a page builder, you can have two avenues of concentration: (1) FA writing and (2) adminship.
You are my superior, and thus I request you to allow me to do the right thing by nominating you for adminship. Please do consider this, and accept. Rama's Arrow 02:50, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- To be sure, I will ask you to nominate me, when I feel I'm 100%. Right now I hope you realize how much Wikipedia needs you - you must help protect quality even as you create it. You will be the guardian angel of thousands of FA writers, and young Wikipedians. Even if you are short of time, being an administrator will give you the tools to be very helpful on the most important things for Wikipedia. Please do accept. Rama's Arrow 03:01, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Saravask - I'm very happy that you've accepted! It is only fitting that you are nominated because you are by far an excellent Wikipedian. I only declined your nomination for a short period of time, in which I hope to show work as proof of my commitment. I deeply appreciate your support, and I will ask only you to nominate me. I shall now proceed to create your nomination. I hope you'll be online right now for at least half an hour more. Rama's Arrow 05:41, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Hello. I see from your last contribution that you are planning to accept the rfa nomination, cool, best of luck. However, I would suggest that when you edit the rfa to indicate your acceptance that you remove the votes that were cast prior to your acceptance as per WP:RFA/N. I'm sure you had intended to do so anyway, but I thought I'd remind you just in case! :) (Obviously, feel free to tell the three people that you have removed their votes and why, so they can re-add them if they wish, but this time at the correct step in the process).

I would have put it into DYK nomination stating that WW1 fact, but the article seems too short. Not much info in the web as well! The history also turning out to be interesting! [edit] Congratulations
Hey there. Congratulations, you've just been made a sysop! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except junk like "LALALALAL*&*@#@THIS_SUXX0RZ"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.
Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun!— Ilyanep (Talk) 21:30, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] nn-bio
I just noticed your comment at the end of the RFA — if this is so (shame on me), what is the most widespread definition then? Thanks. Saravask 23:11, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
- {{nn-bio}} strictly means a biography that does not assert notability. Different from just being non-notable, in that being non-notable is not a speedy criterion, whereas failure to assert any notability is. Good luck with the RFA. Stifle (talk) 23:32, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi Admin! Here is some work you may like! First see, a, b, c etc. You will see the talks on Selected Articles in Portal:India. Many articles were SARCed after these talks.
Now many articles are in Portal:India/Selected article candidates. However, due to less number of votes, it is a long process. can you see at least those articles which do not have any oppose and at least 2 to 3 votes can be quicly upgraded to India SA list? After the nomination page gets somewhat cleaned up, more A-class articles related to India will be nominated. all India related FAs are automatically India SAs. and some former FAs related to India are also SAs. Please see. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 06:58, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Since you seem like and expert on this topic, could you go and check it. I've already posted some of my concerns at the bottom of the talk page, but a lot of work is needed to save this article and we need your help. Hi Saravask, great work on the infoboxes! Just a few suggestions: 1. Could the coordinates be moved up the order? Secondly, could we add a new variable: altitude in feet? I realise that a lot of Indian locations are still measured in feet, so I was thinking the field should be something like this, and would certainly be useful:
Altitude | 10 metres (30 feet)

[edit] Harvnb
Yes, {{Harvnb}} seems to work pretty well, doesn't it? :-) Also I fixed something which had been really annoying me: a bunch of the Dutta and Robinson cites weren't linking down to their reference properly. I worked out what the problem was: Robinson was wikilinked in the full Harvard reference. I wanted to preserve a link to him, since he is a notable writer on Tagore and does have his own article, but I did it by linking him in the "Further Reading" section instead. That was a bit naughty really (given that we are in theory meant to link at the first mention) but it was messing up the cite/reference link functionality, and I noticed other authors weren't linked in the references section who certainly could have been. Thank you for pointing me in the direction of Polaris: the Burton article now has an automatically hidden timeline. Was it you who designed the wonderful referencing system being used on the Tagore article? I really loved the way it was done: I've suggested that for certain purposes the ref and note label templates should be "undeprecated", they can be made to work very well in tandem with the new cite.php structure. I used a variant of that system (though without all the Harvard cleverness!) at One-day International cricket hat-tricks and thought that worked very well too. I know a lot of Indian Wikipedians have been doing wonderful work on the referencing structure: is this because library science is viewed with such esteem in India? At any rate I greatly appreciate it. I have stolen a lot of ideas from the Tagore article, it was my pleasure to come up with a new idea and "give something back" to it! [edit] Template:Infobox Test team
Hi, User:Nichalp reccommended that you take a look at this. He said its jaded and dull, I need to get it better for Indian cricket team which has recently undergone PR and is likely to do FAC sometime soon. Thanks. Nobleeagle (Talk) 07:21, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Problem
There is some problem in Darjeeling. The infobox is gone. Rather., a redirect is there that takes to Template:Infobox Indian Jurisdiction. I thought u mist be the culprit ;) --Dwaipayan (talk) 10:07, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Your self-reverted objection
Hi Saravask, I'm surprised as to why did you revert a valid objection here? -- Sundar \talk \contribs 13:38, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chavez: my belated response and apology
Hugo Chávez has been reverted to your FA version (without talk page consensus, and creating new problems, since the authors of the revert have not updated the article or its links). Events of the last few weeks have changed my view of your position with respect to editing the article. I have posted my apology to you here. Again, I sincerely apologize. [edit] Re: Infobox Indian Jurisdiction
In my opinion, the present infobox along with the locator map, is the best I've seen on wikipedia. Its a really fine job you've done. Cant think of a thing to change on it. But why not go ahead with your idea of a skyline? Even for those cities that dont have a skyline, we can substitute with a picture of whatever defines the city best. Lets see how it turns out.
Thanks for the comments on Kochi, Saravask. I've given it for selection on Portal:India. Nichalp says it needs to be trimmed down to 40 kbs before going for FAC. :-( By the way, curious little me has been dying to ask — is there any special meaning for your user-name? It lacks a vowel, and pronunciation is hard. lol. And where are you from? Please feel free to ignore the questions if you would rather prefer a secret identity. :) -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK15:13, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- The skyline picture has displaced Kochi into the middle of the Arabian Sea. Please come and resuce us at the earliest. :P I think we should perhaps ask on the India notceboard for thoughts from other wikipedians regarding the skyline matter.
- Thanks for the tips. I'll work on that. And Btw, the Andhra part was really unexpected. Cant balme me, actually. Just look — 600 edits on Kerala and 4 on Andhra. Boy, I have renewed admiration for you now. I'm such a cheapskate working mostly on Kerala articles. :( -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK13:43, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Template:Infobox Indian Jurisdiction
Saravask, Need your help. Please take a look at Machilipatnam. I want the inside borders of the image removed so that the infobox shows up like in Mumbai. Can you please update the template code? - Ganeshk (talk) 05:41, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
- That is the border the main template is adding. Looks like it cannot be avoided. - Ganeshk (talk) 15:38, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
- Any reason why you did not want to use Template:Location map and Template:Location map India That is much cleaner way to implement I thought. Could you please take a look at Template:Location map India and adjust the values there? - Ganeshk (talk) 21:52, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- I see. The border is gone now. Looks great! Thanks. Ganeshk (talk) 22:08, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- I noticed a small white line on the title (middle) of Ghughuli. Can that be removed? - Ganeshk (talk) 07:52, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi! Where are you nowadays? We need some help from you. Please have a look at Satyajit Ray. It is in PR now. There are some concerns regarding the length and the style of organisation of the article. [edit] Article stubs/sections placed in Template space
Hi Saravask,
Congrats on becoming an admin. I have found at least four article sections/stubs in Template space; you were the original author:
- 15:05, 25 September 2006 Ling.Nut (Talk | contribs) moved Template:ChavezLinks to ChavezLinks (Many bits scattered bits of info about Chavez in Template space; needs major repair.)
- 15:05, 25 September 2006 Ling.Nut (Talk | contribs) moved Template:ChavezNotes to ChavezNotes (Many bits scattered bits of info about Chavez in Template space; needs major repair.)
- 15:04, 25 September 2006 Ling.Nut (Talk | contribs) moved Template:ChavezArticles to ChavezArticles (Many bits scattered bits of info about Chavez in Template space; needs major repair.)
- 14:55, 25 September 2006 Ling.Nut (Talk | contribs) moved Template:ChavezChavismo to Chavez Chavismo (I am puzzled. This seems to be an article, not a template. Moreover, it looks like it should be merged with Chavismo. I will recommend that as well.)
This is not the correct place to put them; if you are testing then perhaps a subpage of your user page would be more appropriate.
I put a note on Talk:Hugo Chavez detailing what should be done about the three incorrectly placed stubs/sections that I found. If you recall placing any other artcile sections/stubs in template space, then those errors should be repaired as well. Thanks! --Ling.Nut 15:31, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

- PS I looked as far back as November 2005 and found these other problematic templates. I didn't go all the way back to your very first Wikipedia edits; perhaps you may want to check into that:

[edit] Indian jurisdiction infobox
I see you testing a change that will put state-level maps on the Infobox. I was wondering if it is really needed? Why can't we have the locator map used across all boxes so it is consistent. State level maps can be added in a section below, may be under Administration. Please let me know what you feel about this. -- Ganeshk (talk) 07:14, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
- The american boxes have a systemic bias. They assume that the user is already aware of the location of state and city w.r.t United States/World. I just saw Image:India_Andhra_Pradesh_locator_map.svg (I should have checked it first before I wrote you the above message). I am fine with a image such as this. I assumed you would zoom in the state and show only the state-borders. The new locator maps are little different from Nichalp's one. These were developed by PlaneMad and have a different fomatting. Nichalp's map is more flat. I feel the co-ords will get misplaced on the new maps. We need some testing I think. -- Ganeshk (talk) 07:38, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
- I tried a different locator dot here. Please comment. -- Ganeshk (talk) 08:55, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
-
- (gentle reminder) I would suggest we not do any testing on the template directly. I read somewhere any change to the template is huge-resource-hog on the server. It needs to replicate the change to around 7000 articles that you use it. Please use sandbox for testing. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 09:05, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
- New dot looks good. :) Good to see you back to template editing. -- Ganeshk (talk) 09:10, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi Saravask, unfortunately I don't edit NZ/Australia articles, so I'm not very familar with any of the vandals/trolls over there. I know of one editor from New Zealand, however (Gutness). [edit] Hi
Hi, I went back and checked the 9th September version you mentioned in your India talk page note. When I first saw that lead in September, I must say I liked it and over the month that I observed it (until I jumped into the fray myself around 9th October), I too was saddened by the back and forth. However, I now feel that a lead like that is problematic. I will write a separate section on the India talk page in the next day or two detailing my reasons. In the mean time please take a look at this conversation for some of my reasons. Also please read the following two conversations for some of the motivations behind some changes: Introduction biased and Poverty. Fowler&fowler 16:03, 14 November 2006 (UTC) Clarified.
