Should the "Association with sex crimes against Asian women" even be included? The only people seemingly drawing these conclusions that these attacks are a result of a fetish is special interest groups. Not scientific studies conducted by psychologists who could actually speak to it.--Crossmr (talk) 22:25, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- I have no issue removing the header, but I think the sub-sections (or following sections, can't remember which) are relevant. This is within the realm of feminist theory (Quan, for example) and therefore, cultural theories need not be accompanied with scientific data, necessarily. If the sources on the crimes in question refer to "Asian fetish" then I would argue for their applicability. Thoughts? Phyesalis (talk) 22:47, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- We have to be careful to only uses sources which directly refer to the problem as an asian fetish. If they refer to someone as having an asian fetish and committing a crime because of it that is one thing, but if they refer to the person as being obsessed with asians or something like that, then we're drawing the conclusion that they've implied a fetish and we can't do that. The only source I've read so far which directly refers to a fetish is that asianweek article (and then it only refers to it in the title), no one quoted in the article refers to it as such). This becomes a fringe theory thing where we can only find a single source referring to criminal X as having an asian fetish. If no one else makes that association, it makes you wonder how notable and widespread that thought is.--Crossmr (talk) 23:59, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hey Crossmr and Phyesalis, thanks for your feedback. I really don't have any problems with removing the header. I was just leaving up there to see if there were any possible sources, but there were none. миражinred 23:13, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
I found this little page [1]. We can't use this as a source, but it doesn't illustrate a difference between a fetish and a Philia and what we have to watch out for when trying to write this article, and also something to keep in mind when we're evaluating op-ed pieces and how they fit in to an article about an Asian Fetish.--Crossmr (talk) 08:44, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
