Hi all,
I am an Indonesian. Apa khabar? (how are you?) I am currently in finance major in University of Pennsylvania. I hope I will graduate in 2007!!!
I am actually an Indonesian Chinese and one of the minority groups in Indonesia. My family comes from the city of Semarang in Central Java province. It's one of the largest cities of Indonesia with over 1 million population. My User ID which is "Sarangburung" literally means in English "Bird's nest". If there's any ethnic Chinese here, we all know that bird's nest soup is an expensive food delicacy and therefore, I like it very much!!!
My hobby is Numismatics. I collect all sorts of banknotes and coins. My banknote collection is both modern and old periods. The largest modern banknote denomination I have so far is a Singaporean 10,000 Dollar bill. It's huge and massive!!! And expensive...and I keep it in safety deposit box. And the oldest banknote I have so far in possession is a Ming Dynasty 1 Kuan (1000 cash) banknote dated from Hongwu era (i.e. 1368-1398 A.D.). I love it very much. I don't have scans but in future I will show all my banknote collection. So far, I have at least one banknote from all of the countries on this planet. My coin collection is more oriented towards ancient coin collection. Coins I collect include coins from:
- Ancient China - knife-shaped, oblong-shaped, key-shaped bronze coins. Then one of those silver ingot taels. And also, late Qing Dynasty coins notably copper cash coins and silver coins produced by the Pei Yang mint arsenal. I have a lot of Kuang Hsu Yuan Pao, Xuan Tong Yuan Pao, and Tai-Ching-Ti-Kuo silver coins. I have also a number of early Republican coins featuring Yuan Shikai, Sun Yatsen etc.
- Ancient Rome - denarius, solidus (coin) coins.
- British - crowns, sovereigns, shillings, pennies, farthings. Especially from the Queen Anne era (circa 17th century) until the end of the Queen Victorian period (early 20th century).
- French - silver ecus, francs coins.
- Austrian and Prussian - I have lots of Thalers, Mark (money) coins.
- Italian - Lire coins.
- Spanish - Peseta coins.
- American - I have lots of Silver Morgan dollars, Peace dollars, Walking Liberty Half Dollars, Franklin Half Dollars, and American Trade Dollars.
- Mexican - Quite a few collection of Spanish Eight Reales coins, and later modern Peso coins.
...and still collecting some more!!!
Recent sad (natural disasters) news from my country:
- Tsunami disaster in North Sumatra - December 2004.
- Earthquake disaster in Yogyakarta - May 2006.
I hope and pray that God will help and bless all of my fellow countrymen.
