Saru Get You -On Air- (サルゲッチュ 〜オンエアー〜 Saru Getchu -On Eā-?) is a computer-generated imagery-based animated television series, based on Sony's best-selling video game franchise of the same name (known as "Ape Escape" in the U.S.).

The anime, based on the games Million Monkeys, Saru Get You/Ape Escape 3 and Saru Saru Big Mission debuted as part of TV Tokyo's thirty-minute Oha Coliseum segment. Saru Get You episodes are approximately 10 minutes long; the remaining time-slot was originally filled with Rockman EXE Beast+ episodes but has since been replaced by Ryusei no Rockman episodes as of October 7, coinciding with the start of the second Saru Get You series (entitled Saru Get You -On Air- 2nd). The second series concluded on the 29th of September, 2007 and was replaced by Zero Duel Masters from the 6th of October, 2007.

The anime is a bit more light-hearted than the video-game series and is geared more toward younger audiences. It focuses mainly on Jake/Hiroki's romance with Natalie/Natsumi than Spike/Kakeru's romance with Helga/Haruka. Currently, there are no plans for an English adaptation.

[edit] Trivia

  • In an obvious example of product placement, on Episode 24, 25 and 37 of Season 2, the PSP and its UMD medium make appearances as a gadget used by Spike/Kakeru, with the disc being used to reverse the Pipo Monkey transformation on the world. In Episode 37 of Season 2, the PSP was used as a GPS.
  • On Episode 35 of Season 2, the TV Tokyo logo made an appearance when Ukki Red was flying out from the building by Helga/Haruka. Except it's "TV Tokio" instead, but it's quite close to the logo of TV Tokyo.
  • Ukki Blue is the only Saru Get Chu ~On Air~ character who can speak more than Japanese, such as English and other languages.
  • Ukki Pink's camera is actually a Nikon camera, except it is monkey-ized to "Pipon"
  • The design of the Freaky Monkey Five in the anime is the same design for the Ape Escape/Saru Get You video game: Saru Saru Big Mission.
  • Specter made the same mistake in the 2nd season of the anime as he did in Ape Escape 2. He was putting the Pipo Helm on Spike/Kakeru (when he was unconcisous) very slowly in Episode 25 of Season 2. But before he could put it on, Spike/Kakeru wakes up and kicks him away. This is similar to what he did in Ape Escape 2 when he was pulling the switch of the Lethagry Laser slowly in front of Jimmy/Hikaru, which is the worst, most common mistake villains often make in anime and video games.
  • A huge teleborg makes an appearance in Episode 32 of Season 2 but is claimed to be Ukki White's.
  • The Pipotron Brothers can speak Japanese in the anime, but not in the games. Red and Blue can talk, but Yellow just says "Pipo Pipo".
  • The Tokyo Tower can be seen in Episode 14 of Season 2, proving that the Ape Escape characters live in Tokyo.
  • This is the only anime that Jimmy/Hikaru never starred in.
  • At the last part of the last episode, there is a logo on Spike/Kakeru's and Helga/Haruka's shirt that has HK on it, which means Helga/Haruka and Spike/Kakeru.
