Sarkis Assadourian (born January 25, 1948 in Aleppo, Syria) is an Armenian-Canadian politician from the Liberal Party of Canada. He became the first Armenian-Canadian to be elected to the House of Commons, with great support of the Armenian community of Toronto.
Assadourian has grown distant to some in the Armenian-Canadian community by supporting such organizations as the Turkish-Armenian Reconciliation Commission (TARC). The TARC does not continue its activities anymore.
Assadourian was first elected as member for Don Valley North in 1993. In 1997, Assadourian moved seats to Brampton Centre. Generally considered a Chrétien loyalist, he did not run in the 2004 election after the election of Paul Martin as leader. The Liberal Party candidate was instead Ruby Dhalla.
He now serves as a Citizenship Judge in Toronto.
Assadourian and his wife Zaza have four children. He remains a supporter of Armenian causes.
