Sarandë District

The District of Sarandë (Albanian: Rrethi i Sarandës) (Greek: Αγιοι Σαραντα/Aghioi Saranta) is one of the thirty-six districts of Albania, found in southern Albania, in the County of Vlorë at around 39.88°N, 20.00°E.

The area of the district is 730 square kilometers. According to the 2004 census, the population of the district is 40,200. According to the census of January 1993, it was 53,700.

The centre of the district is the city of Sarandë. Other places include Konispol (at the border with Greece), Ksamil (a resort), Çukë, Vrinë and Butrint (an archeological site).

Alongside ethnic Albanians, the Greek minority has a large percentage in the district. There are also few villages of Vlachs.
