Sara Northrup (b. April 8, 1925 in Pasadena, California)[citation needed] was the second wife of L. Ron Hubbard, from 1946-1951. Former girlfriend of Jack Parsons, she and Hubbard were married in a bigamous ceremony on August 10, 1946.[1] Hubbard had abandoned his wife Margaret Grubb and their children as soon as he left the Navy, but they were not divorced until December 24, 1947, over a year afterwards.[2][1] Both women allege Hubbard physically abused them. He is also alleged to have once kidnapped Sara's infant, Alexis, taking her to Cuba. Later, he disowned Alexis, claiming she was actually Jack Parsons' child.[3]
Northrup filed for divorce in late 1950, citing that Hubbard was, unknown to her, still married to his first wife at the time he married Sara. Her divorce papers also accused Hubbard of kidnapping their baby daughter Alexis, and of conducting "systematic torture, beatings, strangulations and scientific torture experiments."[2][4]
There is an extensive interview with Northrup in the book L. Ron Hubbard: Messiah or Madman? by Bent Corydon.
