Sapogenin

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sapogenin is the non-sugar portion of saponin that is typically obtained by hydrolysis. It has either a complex terpenoid or steroid structure and in the later case, forms a practicable starting point in the synthesis of steroid hormones. Steroidal sapogenins, like, tiggenin, neogitogenin and tokorogenin, glucosides, like stigmasterol-β-D glucoside, bibenzyl xyloside and acetylated glucosides have been isolated from the tubers of Chlorophytum Arundinacelum.
