Do you have an opinion on the term lunar soil? Is it useful only in a popular context, or is it potentially acceptable in scientific circles? -- Paleorthid (talk) 03:55, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your answer. On an energetic level, soil formation is all about pE, all about redox gradients. Soil scientists like ourselves wonder if solar radiation has resulted in any material transformation of lunar soil. Does lunar soil age more the longer it is exposed to the sun? Does lunar soil exhibit diurnal changes in pE? Surely the answer will be "yes" if only we can look close enough. I don't advocate diverting our limited research capabilities to study an academic distinction. However, from an energetic view lunar soil and terrestrial soil seem to be the same basic critter. Is there a pedosphere on the moon? In my opinion that will someday be the accepted view.--Paleorthid (talk) 06:38, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
