[edit] Just a quick reply
Hi, Sango! Sorry my reply to your greeting is so long in the making. I think Wikipedia is an excellent example of the largely still untapped power of the Internet, and I'm happy to tweak it when I can. --Doug Alford 13:11, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the welcome
Hey Sanjo, nice to have someone say hello.
Though I have been here since Feb 2005!!!
Im not really going to be a major editor, but from time to time i`ll make some contributions.
Ive only really been active on the Korean War page and only then giving advice on what to include and page structure.
Actually I think thats were Im going to be more helpful, I`m not specialised in any one area so Im better off advising.
Regards

PS Im also keeping an eye on another user (my brother). He can get a bit passionate shall we say on some things. But hes handled himself well so far.
[edit] Yippee!
You're back from academic-induced Wiki-stasis! You've missed a lot of excitement in the past few months: WoW attacks, vandalbot attacks, the new Esperanza group, which I've noticed you've joined. WP:BAP is kind of stagnant, as no one can design any barnstars. Can't think of anything more at the moment, but I'm sure some new users need welcoming. {{subst:smile}} Cheers, Bratschetalk | Esperanza 19:01, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Esperanza Spam
Hello Esperanzians! A few announcements.
The Advisory Committee election results are in. In tranch A are Acetic Acid and Flcelloguy. In tranch B are Ryan Norton and Bratsche.
My other annoouncement is that our founder, JCarriker, has founded Esperanza's sister project, Wikipediology. I have written two essays here (my name is Matt Binder). My essays are under Teenage Wikipedians and Anon Editors.
On behalf of myself and Jay Carriker and the other wikipediologists, I would appreciate it if you were to join.
Cheers Esperanza! Redwolf24 (talk—How's my driving?) 23:45, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
Thanks for welcoming me to Wikipedia. I have tried to clean up and extend the Linux+ article, since I was one of the SME's who designed the question pool and objectives for them exam. Could you take a gander at it maybe and see if it is up to Wiki standards?
Thanks again for the helpful links and tutorial advice.

[edit] Vandalism correction
Just thought you would like to know that you corrected vandalism by an apparent employee of American Airlines in the Love Field article. See: http://dallas.bizjournals.com/dallas/stories/2005/10/10/daily47.html Best, Tfine80 01:59, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] How to stop?
Thanks for the welcome and the links, those are very useful. Where's the link on how to stop spending all your time doing this?! ;) I'm surprised there's not a definition of the affliction wikimania here somewhere ... flux.books 15:01, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Don't you have a real job?
Maybe you should read How to talk to a liberal, but only if you must, by Anne Coulter. Also, maybe you would realize the brilliancy of conservatism if you actually worked. Liberals are such crazy people! Almost like children, they can not see the forest for the trees. So very impractical and non realistic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 156.143.142.210 (talk • contribs) 20:43, 17 October 2005

[edit] Thanks, and HELLLLLPPP!!
Hi, Sango123. I'm pretty much loving Wikipedia, and can relate all to well to the wikimania lament. But that's not what I need help for (though you wouldn't believe that if you look at the list of pages it seemed necessary to create). No, I'm having absolutely no luck on the technical part of uploading images of comic-book covers, which are all over Wikipedia. I used the Wikipedia Commonplace software successfully for two or three images, and then suddenly, it stopped working. Everything jpg I try to upload now gets 50% uploaded and then I get an error message about "An unhandled exception has occured in your application. ... The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found." I left a message on the Tech board a few days ago, but have gotten no answer. Is it me or does Wikimedia Commonplace not work, or not work with my computer, or I don't know. Help! How can I upload images?
Oh, P.S. RE the apparent conservative above. That person's need to insult people he or she disagrees with is the sign of a weak argument, an insecure thinker, or someone who knows that their philosophy doesn't hold up. Someone with self-respect has no need to insult other people. That's childish -- which is ironic given one of insults that person throws. Don't let it get to you.
Remember: It's not liberals saying the way to reduce crime is abort African-American children! -- Tenebrae 04:36, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for yr welcome
Hi,
- Thanks for welcoming me into your community...
BTW, Do you have any information about the administrators of wikipedia... or what type of heirarchy they follow. I've found most open source projects have one or two benevolent dictators sitting on the top and a community structure below them. (people assigned to different task...general populace...etc) I'm just being curious :)

[edit] Seppuke with a frisbee
Seppuku with a frisbee
Seppuku is the ancient art of killing yourself if you get super pissed and can’t find anybody else to kill. Ninjas use all sorts of crap to kill themselves—guns, ropes, knives, lasers, spears, etc.—and don’t even think twice about it. These guys would kill themselves for just about any reason and often for no reason at all: that’s why we there are so few ninjas today.
But if you want to commit Seppuku and you’re like me, you don’t have access to stuff like lasers. But there’s hope. I tried to kill myself by swallowing a frisbee a couple of times—and believe me, it’s pretty cool. The only catch is you have to be really super pissed to do it.
Step 1 Get a frisbee from the store or friend.
Step 2 Clean the Frisbee.
Step 3 Make sure your parents aren’t around
Step 4 Put something slippery on it, like butter or cream.
Step 5 Get really super pissed.
Step 6 Fold the Frisbee hard (this is crucial)
Step 7 Keep folded and insert Frisbee into mouth hard.
Step 8 Push hard until you can’t see it.
Step 9 Wait.
Step 10 Die.
How can you say people don't need to now about this? This is incredibly important! If this is an encyclopedia then why are there pages about you and your friends? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.8.240.51 (talk • contribs) 12:45, 26 October 2005
[edit] Thank you for your welcome!

[edit] Take a look at this
If that anon user didn't deserve an indef block, then would you please look at the indef block of User:BigDaddy777? Even if you believe that he was a "racist" and a "liberal hater" and was making "personal attacks" (which was the subject of an RFA and that was never finished becuase he was summarilly blocked) when you compare his behavior (that was full of both good and, arguably, bad edits with the behavior of that anon user (ALL CLEAR vandal edit), how can the anon user get repeated chances to come back and BigDaddy is done for good? I would suggest that his indef block be shortened or lifted for time served. If an anon user who does NOTHING but vandalise can come back, certainly he deserves AT LEAST the same treatment, don't you? I say let the RFA finish and IF there's a finding that supports the indef bloc then ,aybe reinstate it, but I am seeing a clear difference in the way that an obvious vandal is being given chance after chance, but this guy is not. You have given the anon user ONE more chance to come back after being blocked for months. Doesn't he deserve that same second chance whehn all of his previous blocks were for periods MUCh shorter than one month and half of them were for sockpuppetry alegations that were disproved? Thank you for your time.Gator(talk) 16:40, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for the welcome
I saw something on a disputed page last night that i know is incorrect, and decided that it was time to dive in. It's a Biblical topic that anyone can verify, but i've noticed that a lot of people who talk about the Bible don't know what's in it!
Right now i'm busy with the tutorials on a glacially slow connection...

[edit] William Bentinck, 2nd Duke of Portland
Editing the page on William Bentinck, 2nd Duke of Portland wsa done because the majority of the data on the page was essentially about his descendants. All that should be covered in other pages. He was not a special person but was a part of the ancestry of many and of course the 2nd Duke of Portland.
I saw no reason for all the data regarding him as a person to be included other than that listing his own children and wife. This I did giving deatils of his wife's parentage.
