Talk:Santo Domingo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I Just you to put some photos of the Santo Domingo Downtown. I also think that by not putting the downtown pictures your giving the wrong idea about Santo Domingo to the Viewers, so then i think that you ought to add new info about santo domingo please
[edit] Public transportation?
Can you write anything here about which kind of public transportation networks there are in SD? -- mawa 22:50, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sister cities
Somebody edited the sister cities section and said Santiago was the sister city. Apparently they don't know what is the meaning of sister cities.
And whoever's doing it, keeps doing it over and over, which is extremely funny... lol I'll fix it now but he's probably gonna do it again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.161.65.185 (talk) 07:08, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
I fixed it and left him a message... hopefully he'll stop doing it... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.161.65.185 (talk) 07:25, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Transportation
I am new at this, but I added what I know about the public transit system there, as I had to use it enough.
What is meant by that thing in the public transportation section that says "especially considering the driving habits of Dominicans"?
-
- They're talking about Dominicans being aggressive drivers... It's a bit biased, that section needs some work... As with the Punta Cana article, I'll do my best. --Zavreio 08:01, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
I don't think the statement that drivers in Santo Domingo are aggressive is an overstatement. They are extremely aggressive, to the point that rental car companies in Santo Somingo are starting to rent their cars with drivers. That said, it must also be pointed out that despite how aggressive they can be as drivers, accidents are not as common as in other cities with better reputed drivers.
As not to confuse anyone, "Pasaje" is more accurately translated to "Fare".
[edit] Santo Domingo Today
Maybe you should add info about who santo domingo have change in the past few years , and show the changes of the city. and put more photos , please give us more importance . —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 200.88.88.113 (talk) 22:21, 9 December 2006 (UTC).
[edit] Santo Domingo under Law 163-01
Guys I read an article published in 2002 about the new borders of The City of Santo Domingo De Guzman Within the D.N. The New Measurements of The D.N(Santo Domingo De Guzman) is 142.7 KM2 and we need to place that in the infobox. Can Anybody convert that into MI2. It will be appreciated. The Density Could Be Found by using 916,398(D.N, Santo Domingo De Guzman poulation Only) and divide it by the 142.7 KM or viceversa. I Am not really sure of those procedures. Please help User:EdwinCasadoBaez
[edit] Does Anyone knows how to make a picture gallery, or who has the template?
Well Guys i have tons of Pictures of Santo Domingo And Santiago, the two most important cities in The Dominican Republic but i dont want to put them in the article. Does Anyone knows How to make A picture Gallery around here... It will be great to add a few pics. Dont ya Think???EdwinCasadoBaez 04:16, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Separate Post:
The grammatical errors in this article are, frankly, embarassing to me as a Dominican. Capital letters don't go just wherever you feel like putting them, for one. I'll get around to fixing this, hopefully. Also, there are TWO major baseball clubs in Santo Domingo.. anyone who doesn't know that shouldn't be writing on here to begin with.
-
- Yeah i think you should help out with that. I been just writing information in the article but have not yet started to work in grammar or any correction sections...it would be appreciated if you help because it seems like no body else is interested. I have watched this page every single day for the last month and almost there hasnt been any edits except for mines....EdwinCasadoBaez 22:50, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Notes on the Article
Well, I spent some time trying to correct some of the grammatical and punctuation errors. Can anyone proofread it and let me know if I missed anything. I also added more and clearer info under 'History' and 'Crime'. Espejo81* Espejo81 09:56, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
I think Santo Domingo is no longer a Start-Class article and it needs a urgent peer review. From my point of view it can be B-Class or Even A-Class. This Start-Class Rating of the article was given around late 2006 and it should be updated.EdwinCasadoBaez 00:05, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
The Articles has a poor Section in the economy and even thougth i worked on it i'm still looking for some infoEdwinCasadoBaez 00:09, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Greater Santo Domingo Area
I propose to merge the article Greater Santo Domingo Area into this article. In the words of the article in question itself the term greater Santo Domingo area is not commonly used and also not used by the government of Santo Domingo or the Dominican Republic. I addition I did get only some 30 unique Google hits for this term. It will be hard to find reliable sources for its content. So I suggest to redirect the article to Santo Domingo after the content is merged as it may be a, although unlikely, search term. VirtualDelight 16:34, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- Where the Greater Santo Domingo Area article may be useful is if people want to write about the metropolitan area. A Greater Cleveland article was created, for example, because people kept wanting to include information about the Cleveland suburbs and beyond in the Cleveland article. The problem is that it is then difficult to distinguish information about the city proper from info about the area. Having said that, the Greater Santo Domingo Area article doesn't have much in it, and maybe it doesn't need to exist, but this is one reason why it might be useful. --Beirne 19:12, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- I understand your reasoning. But I do not think this is a problem now for this article. I'd prefer a solution like at Santiago de Chile where both, the commune and the metropolitan area, are covered in one article. Information on the existing other municipalities in the metropolitan area could easily be moved to this articles as they need to be expanded anyway. Also "Greater Cleveland" actually is in use while "Greater Santo Domingo Area" is not. VirtualDelight 21:29, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- I just checked out the Santiago article. The way it is written there is now no actual article about the city of Santiago. The link to Santiago Centro points back to the general article on Santiago. There are articles on the other 31 cities in the Santiago metro area, though, so the suburbs have better articles than the city of Santiago itself. --Beirne 00:21, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

- well maybe it should be deleted...Sorry Guys for creating this article(Greater Santo Domingo)!Well since i was the one that created it!I am going to delete too!or what should we do??I created it so i am not sure of what to do right now!i Putted a Note in the Santo Domingo Article in the first paragraphs but i don't know if thats clear enough about the topic! In reality all i want to do is to make the article simple and usefull to the users but if ya think it should be merge we should do it then or i'll will simply wait for User:Moebiusuibeom-en, He is one of the best editors i know out here regarding to Dominican Works!!(With all respect) EdwinCasadoBaez 01:43, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

- I don't think you did anything wrong here. As User:Beirne points out this is a perfect legit way to handle such a problem. What I think is, as the administrative split was only back in 2001 and is mainly administrative only, both the greater Santo Domingo area, including its administrative division, and the municipality of Santo Domingo de Guzmán as its center could be, at least for now, covered in this article. I would also be interested in the view of User:Moebiusuibeom-en as he is, together with you, the main editor of this article. --VirtualDelight 10:55, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- I just reread the Santo Domingo article and saw that it already covers the metropolitan area. I also found that there is a separate DN article that covers the actual city of Santo Domingo de Guzman. This is something that the authors of the Santiago de Chile article didn't do, because there is no separate article for the actual city there. Given all this, the Santo Domingo article already functions as a Greater Santo Domingo one so I would say that the Greater Santo Domingo article should just be deleted. Its information is already covered in the articles on Santo Domingo and Santo Domingo province. --Beirne 11:39, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] One infobox please
Ciudad Colonial(Santo Domingo)* | |

We don't really need an “Infobox” here, Ciudad Colonial is a special place, lets be a little more candid and informal, it'll create contrast with other articles, check Old San Juan, Puerto Rico ~ Moebiusuibeom-en 18:42, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
I DONT KNOW WHERE TO PUT THIS BUT AN ARTICLE ENTITLED "PATRIMONIO EN DESCUIDO" FROM THE PAPER "EL CARIBE" WRITTEN BY ALEX BATISTA ON AUGUST 4 2004 STATES THAT THE COLONIAL ZONE WAS DEEMED AN IMPORTANT PIECE OF CULTURAL HERITAGE IN 1992, NOT 1994. HOPEFULLY SOMEONE WILL SEE THIS AND KNOWS WHATS UP.
[edit] is somebody going nuts,Sister cities?New York City,Miami?nooo
Um guys, i think we have the wrong term of what sister cities is!somebody added NYC and Miami are sister cities!!i deleted this wrong info. If someone disagree dont hesitate to explain.EdwinCasadoBaez 08:55, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- On this edit I sourced the sisterhood to the Sister Cities International website, and I tagged all the cities that didn't have a reference. NYC and Miami are recognized by that organization, so I'm totally sure that they are correct. --Enric Naval (talk) 01:02, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] New weatherbox
I've mimicked the weatherbox in other city articles and created a similar one for Santo Domingo. Hopefully I'll be able to do the same with Santiago and Punta Cana. --Zavreio 16:39, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Economy
In the economy section it says that Santo Domingo has a GDP PPP of $30 billion. Is that only for D.N.? Or is that counting Sto Dgo Este, Oeste, and Norte? Because I did the math and D.N. has 900,000 people and the per capita income PPP would be almost US$33,000. I think that's a lot. Damn I'd make more money in la capital then in this little town in Massachusetts. LOL —Preceding unsigned comment added by Edward77x (talk • contribs) 23:33, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
sorry for that...thats what happens when i fail to specify. It means the whole Metro area..and actually i need to get a reference for that anyways, but i just forgot where i saw that!i'll change it soonEdwinCasadoBaez 04:50, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
its a problem to put the GDP for the city because they only have figures for the whole Metro Area(santo Domingo Provine + D.N) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.121.170.110 (talk) 16:01, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Photo of statue in Santo Domingo...?
Hi, can anyone take photos of this statue in Santo Domingo, for the article about Antonio de Montesinos (Dominican friar)? The flickr photo (in the link above) is copyrighted, and so cannot be used... Thanks! Ling.Nut (talk) 02:52, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
