The 'Law enforcement and Crime' section seems like an unnecessary bit of propaganda. It does not relate any useful or relevant information about the city and should be deleted. Attinctus 04:56, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I would just like to say that this article is very biased. I actually do not have time to get rid of all the opinionated sections, but with parts that say "Santa Rosa's Government is corrupt", it needs to be fixed. Thanks.

Several attempts have been made to edit the Law Enforcement and Crime section to include the recent October 22nd, 2007 March and Rally to Stop Police Brutality and the October 27th, 2007 Forum on Police Accountability. These two events are a community response to the deaths of 50 individuals who have died at the hands of Sonoma County Law Enforcement or while in their custody since January, 1995. All of this information is factual, has been well-researched and cited from the local journal of record, the Press Democrat and from Sonoma County Grand Jury Fatal Incident Reports. There has been community concern about the lack of any independent investigation of law enforcement involved fatalities dating back to the early 1990's. All attempts to include the simple facts as reported by local media and government agencies have been continually deleted by user, Anastrophe, even when all opinion has been removed. The well substantiated fact that 50 people have died in law enforcement involved fatalities in twelve years and there is still no independent or transparent review system in place, even though a recommendation was made by the United States Commission on Civil Rights in 2000 to establish Independent review boards, is relevant and useful. Local media finds this information relevant enough to report on several times each month. This information could be considered useful to people who might be making a choice to live in this area. The ommission of this well-documented information seems far more propagandistic, as it gives an incomplete and biased view of Law Enforcement in Santa Rosa. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.202.75.206 (talk) 18:18, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New updates 2/07

I've started updating the SR page as my time allows. I see that most of the discussion here is pretty old. I just noted below that the main defect of this page is that it has very little content so far. I'm going to try to add some brief, pertinent sections to get the ball rolling.

For the record, I'm semi-retired at 65, and I've lived in Santa Rosa most of my life since 1952. I've been closely studying the economic/political/social scene in SR and Sonoma County since the late '80s, and I'm pretty well informed about local government and politics.

Here are a couple more tidbits that you might want to mention:

  • The "Peanuts on Parade" program, where they display (and eventually auction off) various Peanuts-related statues around town. Unfortunately, this is the last year they're having it, and so it may be of limited value to wikipedia. This year's theme is "Joe Cool". You might also want to mention that a few of the previous years' statues are still publicly viewable, being scattered around Santa Rosa (but are subject to be moved, as they are now privately owned). True, the PoP program is a temporary business promotion. I think Schulz would be disturbed to see his children letting SR use his characters in ways he never permitted himself. [edit] Birth place of Fictional Philip Marlowe

In a published letter to D. J. Ibberson 19-Apr-1951, Raymond Chandler identifies Santa Rosa ,California, as the birth place (and we assume childhood home) of his famous fictional creation Philip Marlowe. From the letter is appears this may be in homage to the Hitchcock film 'Shadow of a Doubt'.

That seems worth including on the Santa Rosa page - but where? Is he a famous resident - albeit fictional?

I think the Press Democrat could be a deserving topic, but for a standalone page (or perhaps the county page?). As you note, it's not a topic limited to the town of Santa Rosa. Cate8 July 8, 2005 17:58 (UTC)

Separately, the use of Santa Rosa as a filming location is interesting, but that list seems to have many details which are irrelevant to Santa Rosa. Would anyone mind if we cut out the details, like the cast? These films almost all have articles of their own, so most of this info is duplicated elsewhere. [edit] Santa Rosa films vs. Sonoma County films

Why list so many films that have no association with the city of Santa Rosa? Being filmed in Bodega Bay or Cloverdale, etc. makes them perhaps worth mention on the respective cities' pages but not here. Conflating Santa Rosa with the county-at-large is just confusing and distracting.

"Mr. Fox, a Fairfield, CA high school teacher claimed to have a short scene in the movie" (The Candidate) seems a bit far afield from the main topic. An unsubstantiated claim that a random person might have appeared in an unspecified scene--not obvious how this contributes to the body of human knowledge about Santa Rosa. cant we come up with a better lead picture? cherry street historic neighborhood? vineyard by john ash restaurant? schultz museum? the luther burbank house might do well in a different light or angle, but this doesnt seem lead quality as it is. sincerely Anlace 04:19, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

No argument from me—but, I think a vineyard should lead and it's the wrong time of year (I was waiting until bloom to get that snap). The Schulz Museum is notable, but not a lead either. Any other suggestions? RadioKirk talk to me 04:24, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
ok by me to wait for vineyard in leaf for lead...the article could actually use two or three more pics...the river park behind the hyatt hotel (whats it called prince edward greenway?) is not bad, but i shot it at the wrong light. will keep looking ...the stone office bldg in railroad sq is not bad either but im not sure rr sq is worth two pics...thanks for your feedback radiokirk, regards Anlace 05:00, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
I honestly don't think the article is ready for any more pics as it is now. Presuming someone takes on the task of working this to WP:FA status (I might, eventually), then, certainly. Also, I thought about the Prince Memorial Greenway while snapping Burbank H&G, but I rejected it as being of insufficient notability (if I were a tourist, that would be way down on my list). Heck, I know where Mark Felt lives, and I wouldn't snap that, either [grin]. Seriously, though, I'd already thought about dumping the LB home (the gardens are the draw, really) in favor of the Schulz Museum as a lead until the cabernet is in bloom (and, Vintners Inn is technically outside Santa Rosa—then again, the hillside vineyard on Old Red north of Fountain Grove is technically outside city limits, but I think it would take a more dramatic shot). Anyway, I'm rambling—any more thoughts?

its fine to take out the "looking east". i had misunderstood you (i thought something freaky happened when we were both editing at the same time. now i see you meant to take out the "looking east" bit.) i dont think it hurts to have a shot of a vineyard right over the city limit line. i think im in sync with you on all the other points. ill sneak in a few shots of santa rosa in other articles :) and leave alone adding any more to santa rosa for now, best regards Anlace 06:02, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Okay, snap of CMSM now leads. I took several snaps, choosing the W. Steele Ln. view for two main reasons: one, this is the view tourists and locals usually see first (most people will approach from W. Steele, and not down Hardies Ln.); two, even with the painted Charlie Brown and Snoopy statuettes, the front entrance is surprisingly boring and devoid of color. I took out Sonoma State University from under the list of education institutes. Sonoma State is not in Santa Rosa, so it doesn't belong on the Santa Rosa page, even if it is noted as being in Rohnert Park. They are two seperate cities, so vital facts about one should not be on the page of the other. -- Lauren H.

[edit] Moving of Pictures?

I don't think that the couple of pictures should of been moved down to the bottom. I realize that they might go better at their new position, but the article now looks distored, so I believe that the pictures should be moved back up to their normal positions. I moved the pictures to get them out of the way of the current and new text. In my opinion, the shot of the Schulz Museum is too large, and none of the photos are especially pertinent or interesting. But the fundamental problem is a lack of text. The photos won't stick out so much if we create enough text to put them in balance. Mukrkrgsj 06:36, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Assessing here for the San Francisco Bay Area project because Sonoma County is considered Bay Area. The article has a lot of good informative stuff but I rated it a "Start", mostly because the organization is a little inconsistent and hard to read. You might want to consider reorganizing the headers some or even splitting off parts into sister articles like "famous people of Santa Rosa." Ideally a good article should be 20-40k in size and posible to read casually in a few minutes. Wikidemo 23:15, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

User:68.193.12.188 has twice added the Jonas Brothers to the list of Notable Residents. I deleted it once as unverified cruft, and User:Anastrophe. deleted it once as non-notable. Given that the band does have their own page, I do think that they're notable--it's just that there's no reason given to believe that they actually do live in Santa Rosa.
