Genesis of Sankara Eye Care Institutions - Jagadguru and Sankara
"In the mid 80's we used to visit Sri Mutt regularly especially during the early hours of the day, when normally the Paramacharya would speak a few words with the devotees. Rest of the day invariably, He used to be in Mouna Vridha. In all our visits we have never asked anything specifically because He knows what to give.
One such visit at 5.30 in the morning, myself and my wife Dr. Radha were waiting in the queue for the Dharshan of the Jagadguru. As the queue slowly moved ahead there was an elderly lady who was standing just ahead of us. When her turn came, she started putting forth all her mundane problems. She started complaining about her daughter, her son, her family, their indifference, her problems at home, etc,etc without realising the Divine presence. At one stage the Paramacharya closed his ears with His hands and asked "Why are you telling me all these things."
We were standing next. We were jolted. We thought that this old lady has spoiled His mood early in the morning and our turn is the next. Slowly with prayers in mind, we kept the building plan of Sankara Eye Hospital, Coimbatore at the Feet of the Lord. Sri Mutt's assistant who was standing by the side, asked us to explain in detail. With all humility, as we explained the activities since 1977, the proposal of the new Sankara Eye Hospital, its objectives and the future plans, the Jagadguru listened to the entire narration with patience.
At the end, He asked, "Is it eye hospital?... In my name ?... You had given some very good news early in the morning... Highly satisfying, and my mind is soothened"....... He took the plan, kept it on this Head and gave it back to us with a fruit. What a Blessing...; What a direction...; What a guidance, divine protection and support...
If today this Institution is growing, spreading its service activities to reach the poor, not only in this state, not only in other states of this great country, but also in other developing countries, all in the name of the Jagadguru, it is undoubtedly His divine grace. May his grace bless the devotees, bless the people supporting the cause, bless the doctors and staff involved in the service delivery and bless the beneficiaries."
