Sanzo Nosaka (野坂 参三 Nosaka Sanzō) (March 30, 1892 – November 14, 1993) was the co-founder of the Japanese Communist Party. He co-founded the Party in 1922 and was later expelled from it after being indicted on charges of espionage activities. He was outspoken about Chinese Communism and Mao Zedong, and often argued with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Yoshida over political matters. During the 1937-45 Second Sino-Japanese War, Nosaka resided at the Chinese Red Army base in Yan'an in Shaanxi Province, where he headed the Japanese People's Emancipation League (JPEL). The JPEL engaged in the reeducation of numerous Japanese prisoners of war and created propaganda on behalf of the Chinese Communists.
