Santos F.C. (England)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Santos F.C. were a football club established in 1965 and based in Nottinghamshire, England.

The club progressed from local football in 2002, joining the Notts Alliance Division Two. They won that in their first season, gaining promotion to Division One.

In 2004, they were accepted as members of the Central Midlands League Premier Division, but after two seasons in the Central Midlands League, they folded due to their landlords at the Bilsthorpe Colliery Welfare ground being unwilling to make the necessary improvements to sustain that level of football. After making fruitless attempts to ground-share, and with the back room staff drifting away, the management made the inevitable decision to cease operations. However, a group of new and old Santos FC followers revived the Santos name and they are now playing in the Notts Amateur Alliance League under the Nottinghamshire FA.

Although the home ground has changed to the William Lee Memorial Park in Calverton, a number of old Santos players have returned, along with the Santos spirit.
