[edit] General information

Organized in 1967, the Santiago Library System is a cooperative arrangement designed to maximize resources by providing programs and services jointly where it is mutually beneficial to the local population.

An important SLS role is facilitating the sharing of local collections by providing delivery of materials among the nine member libraries. The System enhances the reference capabilities of these libraries by furnishing additional resources and expertise when needed to meet patrons’ requests. SLS presents workshops, arranges staff training programs and aids in the development of additional reference tools and services.

The SLS Administrative Offices are located in the offices of the Metropolitan Cooperative Library System (MCLS) at 3675 East Huntington Drive, Suite 100, Pasadena, California 91107. The SLS telephone number is (800) 211- 7944, the fax is (626) 683-8097.

The MCLS Reference Service, with offices at the Central Library of the Los Angeles Public Library, provides SLS member libraries with second-level reference support services. The MCLS Reference Service phone number is: (213) 228-7575.

SLS member libraries may also access the MCLS Web site for SLS staff directories, SLS Committee Meeting dates, Publications, useful links and upcoming workshops.
