[edit] History
Santa Rita was constructed from 1957 to 1961. As part of the district's facilities modernization program, Santa Rita was renovated during the 2003-04 school year. Students and staff returned to their newly remodeled campus in August 2004.
Originally built for 300 Students, Santa Rita is currently serving 548 children. There are eleven portable classrooms on campus. In phase two of the construction program (as yet unfunded) Santa Rita will get new classroom buildings as well. The school has been reconstructed to house up to 600 students. [1]
Santa Rita's student body has grown by 20 students in the last ten years. The current student population is very diverse. The racial/ethnic composition of the school is 53% Caucasian, 36% Asian, 8% Hispanic, and a small mix of other groups. The school receives some state and federal funding to help educate students who have limited proficiency in the English language. [2]
[edit] Academics
Santa Rita School was chosen as one of a select group of National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, an honor reflected every day in every classroom. Santa Rita has exemplary teaching and support staff and involved parents and a strong community sense that education is a priority. [3]
This has been reflected in the academic performance at Santa Rita since it is consistently near the top in the state as measured by the Academic Performance Index (API). Santa Rita is ranked a full 10 in the statewide ranking and a full 10 when measured against similar schools. [4]
