Santa Ana Maya's population origins are pre-Hispanic, and was called Sitquije (which means fertile soil). Later changed its name to Santa Ana Sitquije. Subsequently the town changed its name to Santa Ana Maya without knowing why or when was the precise time of this event. Santa Ana Maya's more important headings of capital are, immigration, farming, carpentry, and others with less importance.
