Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology or SLIET is a technical college in north India.
The institute is located on 451 acres (1.83 km²) of land provided by the Punjab government. The campus consists of green land, a developed area with many topographically featured landscapes, numerous buildings of various nature and stature and metal road network. It is embedded with all the amenities required for a complete township.

The institute was conceived by the government of India in 1985 as a tribute to Sant Longowal (Harchand Singh Longowal). The institute was established by Ministry Of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) in 1989 and was formally inaugurated on 20 December 1991.It was made a deemed to be university by UGC in the month of April 2007.

Accepting the challenge of a new education policy, SLIET was established with a vision to act as an international podium for the development and transfer of technical competence in academics. It provides technical education and to cater to the technical manpower requirements with emphasis on practical training in industry.
The institute is a deemed to be University and also an autonomous body, fully funded by the government of India and controlled by SLIET society, registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860. The institute awards its own certificates, diplomas and degrees approved and recognized by AICTE, New Delhi. Ph.D. programmes have also been started . Besides catering to the needs of formal education, the Institute prepares skilled and qualified manpower for self-employment. Further, the institute performs strategic research and development activities that, along with entrepreneurship, are intended to extend the efforts of the institute in imparting education to the unemployed and working population by updating and upgrading their technical skills. The institute was thought to cater to then existing 3-tier system to modern industry, which incorporates workers, technicians and engineers.

The Central Library is housed in a modern building having all kinds of facilities for its best utilization by the student community. It has large number of volume of technical books along with a good collection of books on literature, general awareness, management and moral sciences etc. The central library is already subscribing to a large number of National and International journals. Besides print subscription users are having access to full text of articles from journals under INDEST Consortium. The central library is having all the modern facilities like MMP; CTV; OHP; Slide Projector etc. A good collection of VCDs as well as CD ROMs is also available in the library. Efforts have been made so that users may feel comfort while they study or consult library material for their study and research purpose. On-line live interactive classroom facility is made available recently using EDUSAT program of Govt.of India.

SLIET has separate Boys and Girls Hostels (09 Boy’s Hostels and 2 girl’s hostel).The capacity of each hostels are 235 students, and the capacity of PG Hostel is 80 students. All the hostels are connected to a centralized Internet facility with connections in each room in senior hostels.other facilities include Indoor Games, News Paper &Magazine, Reading Room facility, Visitor Room facility, Guest Room (for parents), TV Room facility with cable connection, Telephone facility, Mess /Canteen, Geyser provided in bath rooms, Water Cooler provided on each floor, Gymnasium facility (for Girls Hostels), Library facility (for general / literature books) et al.

Sliet has one of the best state of the art laboratory facilities in all the branches of engineering and sciences. It provides practical training to the students of all branches. It also provides practical training and experience to the students under 'Non-formal' Programmes. Manufacture and repairing of the institutes's furniture is also done in the workshops. It also conduct short orientation programmes for skill development of faculty and staff.

The Health Center has been established in the institute premises in a covered area of approx. 400 sq mts., with capacity of four beds. It provides day to day medical facilities at primary level to the students, staff and faculty. For general awareness, Health Center organizes various seminar/camps with the help of Dist. Health Dept.
