Sant'Andrea in Percussina

Sant'Andrea in Percussina is a frazione of San Casciano Val di Pesa in the province of Florence, Tuscany, Italy. It is a small village of ancient origin and one of the most picturesque places in the area between San Casciano Val di Pesa and Florence. Niccolò Machiavelli wrote The Prince at his home here, the Albergaccio, where he lived when in exile.

A small museum is dedicated to the great writer; the villa, now Bossi-Pucci stands close by the Hostelry where Machiavelli used to "let off steam".

Nearby is the splendid thirteenth-century church of S. Bartolomeo in Faltignano. This once possessed an interesting painting on wood, probably of Agnolo Gaddi style, representing Saint Andrew enthroned and a Madonna enthroned and saints attributed to the school of Filippino Lippi, today in the church of Chiesanuova Val di Pesa.

Not far from here, just outside Spedaletto, is the twelfth-century church of S. Maria a Casavecchia, which contains a Della Robbia polychrome altarpiece in terracotta.

Piuta is a recently restored, ancient house nearby.

Sant'Andrea in Percussina hosts the headquarter of the Chianti Classico wine makers Consortium. There one can enjoy a nice glass of Chianti in the famous restaurant Albergaccio Machiavelli, while also admiring the splendid view of Tuscan landscape.
