Sankari is a panchayat town in Salem district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

As of 2001 India census[1], Sankari had a population of 27,402. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Sankari has an average literacy rate of 68%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 75%, and female literacy is 60%. In Sankari, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Sankari - is pronounced as San-ka-giri in tamil. Sankagiri is one of the leading Truck transport towns in the country. India cements [1] on the major cement companies is located in Sankari. Sankagiri is also famous for its fort where Tipu sultan [www.hindu.com/stories/2004111301560100.htm]was preventing the british forces to have an easy access to Coimbatore. The famous National Highway 47 passes via Sankagiri.
