Sandy Thomas was a fictional character on the ITV soap opera Emmerdale. He was played by Freddie Jones.
[edit] About Sandy
Sandy came to Emmerdale in 2005 as the father of vicar Ashley Thomas. Ashley and Sandy were estranged due to Sandy having committed euthanasia on Ashley's mum. However, Ashley's new wife Laurel and granddaughter Jasmine were pleased to have him around.
Sandy has developed friendships with Daz Eden and Shadrach Dingle and made an enemy out of Edna Birch. He was accused of kidnapping Belle Dingle at Christmas 2005 after the girl had gone missing.
After a major fall-out with his son, Sandy moved in with Alan Turner and Betty Eagleton. Sandy and Ashley soon reconciled but Sandy remained with Alan and Betty.
[edit] Departure
Freddie Jones, the actor who plays loveable rogue Sandy Thomas, is leaving the Dales.
Sandy, who arrived in the village in 2005 when he turned up uninvited for his son, Ashley’s wedding, will leave in March. But producers are keen to stress the door has been left open for his return.
