Sandy Hook is village of the town of Newtown, Connecticut. Sandy Hook borders the Botsford section of town, Newtown borough, and the town of Southbury. Church Hill Road services both Newtown and Sandy Hook. The two areas are separated by Interstate 84. Sandy Hook was founded in 1711

Sandy Hook is home to Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, Inc. This fire department is led by Chief William Halstead. It has over 60 members, and 10 piece of apparatus. They have won numerous awards for their outstanding service to the community.[1]

Within a year after Newtown was settled, some of its proprietors began moving away from the central village and to some of their larger parcels, and several proprietors with land in the same area tended to move out together to reduce isolation. Sandy Hook was one of the first of the outlying areas settled. Colonists found the Potatuck River at Sandy Hook allowed for the setting up of saw and grist mills. The neighborhood would not grow dramatically until the industrialization of the mid 19th century.[2]

Sandy Hook has been known for years to be the "less expensive" section of Newtown. Over the last 10 years, that statement is no longer true as there have been many new homes built and new roads constructed to accommodate these new homes.[citation needed] The existing buildings in Sandy Hook have also undergone renovations to make them more appealing and to regain usage as some of them were not in condition for use.[citation needed] Treadwell Park is located in Sandy Hook on Philo Curtis Road.
