Sandy Bay is a suburb of the city of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. It is immediately south of the CBD in the local government area of City of Hobart.

The area is generally known as one of the city's more prestigious suburbs, with many large and extravagant homes and apartment blocks. Typically occupied by the higher income bracket, it adjoins the waterfront Salamanca area as well as the nearby prestige suburb of Battery Point. Sandy Bay is one of Hobart's most desirable places to live, and is known throughout Hobart as an area of affluence. It is also the site of the Hobart campus of the University of Tasmania, Fahan School The Hutchins School, and Mount Carmel College and as a result has a large student population.

Sandy Bay is accessible via Sandy Bay Road, which runs from Davey Street in the city all the way to the Kingborough municipal boundary at Taroona where it becomes the Channel Highway. Before the construction of the Southern Outlet, the road was the primary route to and from Kingston. It is also accessible via Regent Street, which bypasses the shopping district and goes direct to the University and Lower Sandy Bay.

Australia's first legal casino, Wrest Point Hotel Casino, was opened in 1973 at the site of the former Wrest Point Riviera hotel.

Famous former residents of Sandy Bay include Errol Flynn, Ben Shadforth and Jesse Gasparinatos, who is famous for working with Paul Johnstone and Lawrie "Truck" Kertesz.

Sandy Bay is bounded by the Derwent River, and the main beach is Nutgrove Beach.
