Sandvika  is the administrative centre of the municipality of Bærum in Norway, and declared itself a city on 4 June 2003.[1]

Sandvika is situated approximately 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) west of Oslo and has a bus station and railway. Sandvika is also one of the stops along the route of the Flytoget Airport Express Train. It takes approx. 39 minutes to get to the airport from here.[2]

Sandvika used to be home to the Norwegian School of Management business school, usually referred to by the Norwegian abbreviation BI. This school moved to new surroundings in Nydalen, Oslo in August 2005.[3] The high school called Sandvika Videregående Skole were established in the former BI building.

The nearby island Kalvøya is a good place for recreation.[citation needed] In summer it hosts numerous barbecue parties whilst during winter it forms the base for warmly-dressed fishermen who endure the cold weather and ice fish for cod and sea trout on the frozen waters around Sandvika.[citation needed]

A small islet in Sandviksbukta outside Sandvika is called Danmark. Danes who live in the Oslo area join together every year on June 5, Denmark's national day to celebrate.[4]
