Sandro Cortese (born January 6, 1990 in Ochsenhausen, Germany),is an German motorcycle racer, currently competing in the 125cc Grand Prix World Championship. He currently lives in Berkheim.
The young German of Italian origins started his career at the age of nine with pocket bikes and clinched the European Pocket Bike title, also he became the German Mini Bike champion . He competed at the German ITM Championship in the 125cc class, but only manage to finish 10th.[1]
Cortese made his 125cc World Championship with Kiefer-Bos-Castrol Honda in 2005, he finished the season in 26th place with 8 points. His best finish was 14th place in German GP, Czech GP, and Turkish GP. But for 2006, he switch to the 2005 125cc Championship-Wining team, the Elit - Caffè Latte which is also on Honda machineries. He partnered 2005 125cc World Champion Thomas Lüthi. He made steady progress scoring some mid-field championship points, His best result was in the Portuguese GP in 10th place and improved in the standings to 17th place with 23pts.
Cortese enjoyed the season, but occurred little changes around him for 2007, which his team became Emmi - Caffè Latte, switched to Aprilia and Thomas Lüthi move to 250cc also used Aprilia. But when testing in Spain, he found out his new Aprilia is totally different from his 2006 Honda. But he made an even better progress, finishing most fo the season's race in the top 10 including 7th places in the French GP, and his home races in the Italian GP and German GP. He finished the championship in 14th place with 66 points. This improvement caused him to use an official Aprilia RSA 125 for 2008.
Cortese is also known for his perfect attendance in every races of each of the season he entered since 2005.
