Sandra Rivett
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sandra Rivett was a nanny who was murdered on the night of 7 November 1974, by Lord Lucan.[1] She was 29 years old.[2] The Earl and Countess of Lucan were estranged at the time, and Rivett was the nanny employed by Veronica, Lady Lucan for their three children. Rivett had only been Lady Lucan's nanny since September 1974, approximately seven months following the Lucans' legal separation.[3]
[edit] Death
Rivett was murdered on a Thursday night at her employer's residence, Lady Lucan's six-storied house at 46 Lower Belgrave Street, London.[2]. Lady Lucan testified that Rivett had entered the basement kitchen to make tea, as the other kitchen facilities were out of operation [4]. Rivett was later found dead, bludgeoned by a lead pipe and wrapped in a mail sack in the basement.[5][6] It appears she was an accidental victim and that Lord Lucan had intended to murder his wife. It can be supposed that the woman stepping into the darkness of the basement could have been mistaken (by the murderer) for his wife. Lord Lucan subsequently disappeared and is presumed dead by his family.
