The name Sander (Pronounced: Sahn-der) is of German origin, though mostly used in the Netherlands and Belgium. It's a variant of Alexander (Greek) which means Protector of Men.
Sander is only used for boys, the girl variant is called Sandra.
Outside Europe, Sander(s) is a very rare male first name but a rather popular surname. Very often, people called Sander are called "Sanders" for this very reason.
