Sande is a municipality in the county of Vestfold, Norway.
Sande was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt).
The municipality is located about 40 minutes driving south of Oslo, and lies beautifully by the Sea. In recent years the center of Sande has grown significantly due to a a large number of new apartments and stores.
Parts of the Olsenbanden-movie "Olsenbanden tar gull" from 1973 was filmed in Sande, and another part in Stavern.
[edit] The name
The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old farm Sande (Norse Sandvin), since the first church was built here. The first element is sandr m 'sand', the last element is vin f 'meadow, pasture'.
[edit] Coat-of-arms
The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1986). The figure is meant to represent Sandebukta ('the bay of Sande').
