[edit] History

San Sostene was found through a housing estate on the beach between Pacile and Portonuovo. In the middle of the 15th century it was relocated in the actual area. First it was under rule of different families like Pignatelli, Borgia di Squillace and Revaschieri. After the earthquake of 1783 the comune was damaged seriously. Six Years later there was an earthquake again in which the today's church was destroyed and then rebuilt. The 4th May of 1811 it became an independent comune. In 1917 there was built a churchyard, because there wasn't any place to bury them. In former times they were buried in the catacombs of the church.
