The microstate of San Marino debuted and competed in the first of two semifinals in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade. They had to compete against 18 other entries on 20th May 2008 (1st semi-final) to gain a place in the final on 24th May 2008. The Sammarinese public broadcaster SMRTV has applied to take part in the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest, and it has also announced the full broadcast of the event (both semi-finals and the final).
On February 9, 2008, SMRTV announced that the choice of the song would be made by an internal jury, presided by Little Tony. A month later, on March 11, the first entry of the microstate was announced: the group Miodio, with the Italian song "Complice".
The country failed to qualify for the final of the contest, having not achieved enough votes in the semi-final.
