San Juan y Martinez, Pinar del Río

San Juan y Martinez is a relatively small town (Pop. 9380) in the southwest part of the province Pinar del Río, Cuba.

Though small, it is larger in both size and population than most town in the province and also unlike most small towns, it enjoys the convenience of many comforts usually only afforded to larger cities. Most of these conveniences are payable with convertible currency, not the national peso including a 24-hour fast-food restaurant named "DiTú," an outdoor cafeteria named "El Rapidito," a 24-hour gas station, four convertible currency grocery, clothing, and electronic appliances stores, and a CADEDCA (currency exchange houses) open 7 days a week. Most everything else in the town functions on the national peso, including a couple of restaurants, the movie theater, barber shop, pharmacy, etc. San Juan can also boast its own hospital with a fully functional maternity ward as well as a "Polyclinic" treatment center, both also open 24 hours.

Its economy is centered mainly on agriculture and the crop of its farmers, the largest of which being tobacco. In Cuba, San Juan y Martinez is known as the "Mecca of the Tobacco."
