The San Jose Police Department (SJPD) protects the streets of San Jose, California and keeps San Jose one of the safest large cities in the United States.[1] The San Jose Police Department, led by Chief of Police Robert L. Davis, is a dynamic, progressive, and professional organization dedicated to maintaining effective community partnerships which promote a high quality of life and relatively low crime rate for the City's diverse population. The Department is committed to treating all people with dignity, fairness and respect, protecting their rights and providing equal protection under the law. and has been a leader in establishing and maintaining trust and confidence with its residents.

In September 2007, the San Jose Police Department started making all its Calls for Service available to the public through a partnership with CrimeReports.com. As the first American city to make all 911 calls available in near real time, the event was highly publicized throughout the United States.
