San José de las Lajas is a municipality and city in the La Habana Province of Cuba. It is located in the center of the province, and is bisected by the Carretera Central.
It was founded in 1778.[1]

In 2004, the municipality of San José de las Lajas had a population of 69,375.[3] With a total area of 591 km² (228.2 sq mi),[2] it has a population density of 117.4/km² (304.1/sq mi).
The municipality is divided into the barrios of Chávez, Cotilla, Ganuza, Independencia Norte, Independencia Sur, Jamaica, Jaula, Portugalete, San Andrés, Santa Bárbara and Tapaste.[1]
