San Giovanni

San Giovanni, the Italian form of "Saint John" (q.v.), a name that may refer to dozens of saints.

At least 58 comuni in Italy are named San Giovanni, and at least 49 more are named San Giovanni... (as in San Giovanni Valdarno in Tuscany), and hundreds of frazioni and smaller villages. Many hundreds, probably even thousands, of churches are also named after the various saints hiding under the simple "Giovanni", among them:
