San Francisco ballot measures

Many laws, official policies, and alterations to the city charter in San Francisco are decided by direct voter referendum rather than by the city's legislative body, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

[edit] 2006

  • Proposition G seeks to require mandatory preapproval of the city Planning Commission before "formula retail" stores can open any new branch citywide, in the interests of preserving the local character of San Francisco. Proposition G would extend existing similar ordinances that already apply to certain neighborhoods to the entire city. A "formula retail" store is defined as any retail store with 11 or more locations in the United States. The proposition would not ban such stores, but require public notice and hearings before they would be permitted to open.
