San Diego Math Circle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Founded by Richard Rusczyk in 2003, the San Diego Math Circle serves fifth to twelfth grade students in the San Diego area. Offering free classes for avid middle and high school math students at UCSD, it quickly grew to become one of the largest Math Circles in the United States with nearly 200 students. The philosophy of building a culture of opportunity for math students has proven dramatic success with Math Circle members qualifying for and winning the USAMO, making a perfect score on the AMC 10, making a perfect score on the AIME, attending MOsP, winning first place in the Siemens Westinghouse Competition, qualifying for the national MathCounts competition, winning the Mandelbrot Competition, winning the National Spelling Bee, and attending the Chemistry Olympiad Program.
Funding for the Math Circle comes from the families of students as well as the Art of Problem Solving Foundation and local corporate sponsorships.
