San Antonio is a 4th class municipality in the province of Zambales, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 28,248 people in 6,483 households.

San Antonio was formerly just a hunting lodge where hunters from the northern towns of the province would stay to rest. The first Ilocano families from the Paoay area of Ilocos Norte arrived in 1830 and founded the first settlement that grew into what is now the town.

The town was the site of the United States Navy San Miguel Naval Communications Station. After Mt. Pinatubo's eruption in 1991 the Americans decided to leave, it is now used for educational purposes of the Philippine Navy and merchant marine.

Pundaquit, in San Antonio, is also a site to behold. Nestled in the navel of the Zambales coastline, a Spanish Light House from the 1800s is found atop the "Islas de Punta Capones." This is reminiscent of places such as "Sierra Leone." Zambales is also home to the famous Crystal Beach surf in the quaint town of San Narciso. This surf spot is known as a "surfing paradise" closest to Manila. There you will find surf lessons, board rentals, as well as cozy accommodations. The newest resort in the area is "PUNTA DE UIAN", a world class resort and favorite area for tv series filming like MARIMAR of GMA7 and various tv commercials. Pundaquit is also fast becoming as surfing capital of Luzon.

[edit] OKSAI: Organisasyon ng Kababaihan ng San Antonio, Inc.

This is a Non-Government Organization (NGO) founded by Dra. Estela Deloso-Antipolo aimed at empowering the women of San Antonio Zambales to help themselves and their family in terms of Health, Livelihood and uplifting Women's rights. The organization has approximately more than 8,000 members to date coming from all the barangays of the town. One of its most successful program is called the "MUTUAL AID": Members of the organization donate P10 each whenever a member passes away. 10% of the collected sum goes to the collectors as livelihood. Another fraction of the collected money goes to the San Antonio Rural Bank as MORTUARY FUND.

[edit] Billiards

San Antonio is well known for its billiard-hustlers. We have great players like Lodgie, Cary "YO" Jones, Macho, Alex, GABATZKI, Johnny Boy, Mar, Ramil, Mark, Tony, Marlon, Nyong/Gemo, Manong and many more... We hope to produce World-Class players in the future. The town is thankful for the efforts of Councilor Butch Echiverre in encouraging the youth to participate in various Billiards Tournaments. He is also the man behind the town's craze in DARTS.
