The Bay Area has many marvels of modern civil engineering:
- The world famous Golden Gate Bridge which was at one point the largest suspension in the world and is now the second longest in the United States.
- The East Bay section of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge is one of the largest Cantilever bridges in the world.
- Transbay Tube - The longest underwater tube for rapid transit in the world and also the deepest vehicular tube in service today.
