LSU tigers deletion nomination

I'm not nominating these articles because I think they are bad articles, or are poorly referenced, I'm nominating them because its silly to have a unique page for each season of each team for one sport for each school in Division 1. Any easy fix for this would be to merge them into one article for each team, with a different section for each season/year. If you all don't agree, then you're blind to your own bias, and life will go on. DesertSky85451 00:19, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

On a side note, you're accusing me of nominating an article for deletion in bad faith, which I don't appreciate. I don't know shit about LSU, or the Longhorns, and I don't care, but I also don't like the deletion of useful information from Wikipedia. I do, however, like a neat and orderly wikipedia, and these articles offend my sense of cleanliness. What is your objection to a merger into one article for each school's football program? I like the way you insult my obliviousness on the discussion page for the AfD instead of trying to have a dialog with me. Really mature of you. Clearly, these don't have a consensus on these articles yet, but since my nomination has accomplished nothing more than homophobic comments towards me, I'm giving up. You didn't try to start a dialogue with anyone before you put up a wholesale listing of articles for deletion, did you? And I'm sorry if anyone posted anything disparaging anyone's sexuality—that certainly has nothing to do with the issue and is not indicative of all football fans. I personally listen to NPR, watch the Daily Show, and support LGBT rights. I will delete that "Joey Hope" comment from the AfD. • I did try to start a dialogue by listing several of the LSU season articles as proposed deletions with a suggested merger to a combined article, at which point User:Seancp promptly deleted my proposal tags. Only then did I go for the AfD because I got pissed off about my proposed deletion tags being removed. I should have gone to the wikiproject talk page to attempt to talk this over with reasonable people, but I didn't know about the wikiproject until after the AfD was created. I'm not claiming to be perfect, but you're accusing me of being oblivious (wrong), wanting the information deleted completely (also wrong), and not finding college football notable (also wrong). Secondly, you have no proof the poster was from the deep south. Does this possibly indicate some geographical bias? Third, there is not even proof that the poster was a college football fan. LSU Pages nominated for deletion

Because you've been doing some great work on LSU related pages, I thought I should let you know that a user has been nominating the LSU individual season pages for deletion. Just thought you might like to know so that some of your hard work doesn't get deleted. He seems to only target LSU seasons, even after I explained to him that these pages are watched over by the Wikipedia:WikiProject College football, that almost all D-IA teams have individual season pages, and that they are acceptable on Wikipedia.

If you're going to consolidate text from existing articles into a grouped article (something I fully support in instances like this), you need to preserve the page history of the old pages for GFDL purposes, rather than nominating them for deletion. LSU Season Pages

Please tag the talk pages for all season pages of {{LSUFootballSeasons}} with {{WikiProject College football|class=|importance=}}. If they were a national champion that year, set the importance=high, otherwise low. If they are just stubs (which I looked at some of them and they all were) set class=stub. I would encourage you to rethink creating a page for every season, especially since most of them will be nothing more than a short schedule. You could combine them all onto a single page (especially the early years). Creating lots of stub pages isn't useful to Wikipedia. --MECU≈talk 13:05, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

China, Taiwan, etc.

It doesn't have anything to do with bias - it's a matter of linguistics. I carefully researched all six countries to come up with my last edit. I started this article with the intention of listing English exonyms and their corresponding endonyms for nations and their capitals. The exonymic name should be the most familiar one in the English language (i.e. Taiwan, not ROC), not the official English name. These countries were listed one way for the past two years, and were recently changed - I'm simply trying to keep them the way they've been.

I'm just trying to keep this article in sync with the other list. Republic of China and the Koreas need there repected leters since that what the list of countries has it under (The header states that this article is based on the list of countries article witch has been consistant since aleast June 2006.) One question why do we go by the short form and not the offical form of the countries name? since the offical names is what the countries go buy not the short form? The main point is that I just want the main countrie list to be as similar as possible so we don't confuse the public. BionicWilliam 08:44, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

What I mean in the header is that the criteria for inclusion is based on the list of countries, not that the names should be exactly the same.

I created this list to reflect the short, familiar forms of place names in both English and their native languages, to provide insight into what people call their countries on a day-to-day basis, rather than an official one. My only beef then is with Republic of China/Taiwan, people might be confused, In that it might be the proposed Republic of Taiwan not de jure Republic of China.

The reason I changed the Chinas to what I stated above is Taiwan is not what the Chinese of the Republic of China call there country. China is the proper Exonym. Replacing U.S. with US

I noticed that you are replacing the "U.S." with "US" in articles. In the Wikipedia:Manual of Style (abbreviations), the standard abbreviation for the U.S. is "U.S." — ERcheck (talk) 11:11, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

As you didn't reply, I went ahead and reverted them myself. In reviewing your edits, I found [1] particularly bothersome; you had made two minor formatting changes, but failed to correct highly visible vandalism in the article. Consider doing fewer edits more slowly to give yourself time to read and edit properly. Adding {{cleanupdate|September 2006}} is always an option if you are not sure whether something is actually vandalism.

None of the above is meant to discourage you from using AWB to make edits; I enjoy using it myself. I just think you need to be more careful in future. --Guinnog 12:28, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

My mistake. I didn't realise Wikipedia has such a wildly inconsistent style manual ("U.S." is the only punctuated abbreviation - not even "USA" is.) Of course, the MOS also says that it defers to standardised styles, such as Chicago, etc., which is why I was using what is generally consensus in critical bibliographical research. Also, I'm an American who uses British English, which leads to differences in style.

That said, I've no problem following the in-house standard—I was simply mistaken about what it was. Thanks for reverting those changes that I made, and sorry you had to bother with it.

Also, my edits were still in progress. I was making a first pass to pick up formatting problems that AWB catches, then was to proceed with my usual detailed edits of spell-checking and vandalism-watching. (I use anti-vandal tools rather than AWB for removing vandalism.)

explaining my changes to the Chinas, the Congos & the Koreas

Since these all have the same English short name I just went ahead and changed there names to there official long forms to conform to list of countries & List of sovereign states because I think it's better to conform to the other list. Besides it not Official

The Two Koreas do not recognized each other North Korea is not the Official English Short Name of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, which would be Korea. South Korea is not the Official English Short Name of the Republic of Korea, which would be Korea.

The Two Chinas do not recognized each other China is the Official English Short Name of the People's Republic of China Taiwan is not the Official English Short Name of the Republic of China, which would be China.

The Two Congo’s recognized each other but Congo- Kinshasa not the Official English Short Name of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which would be Congo. Congo-Brazzaville is not the Official English Short Name of the Republic of the Congo, which would be Congo.

So I just went buy the Official English Names to be safe. (I just needed help with formatting & Transliterations
