Sam Kinsley was born in 1981 and I live in Bristol in the United Kingdom.
I recently completed the MSc in Society and Space at the School of Geographical Sciences in the University of Bristol. I studied as an undergraduate at the University of Plymouth, in BSc (Hons) Digital Art & Technology in 2004. I am currently studying towards a PhD. I am generously funded by the Economic and Social Research Council as a 1+3 student, which breaks down as one year for a Masters degree and three for a doctorate. I'm interested in researching the socio-spatial implications of existing and nascent mobile/ wireless communications technologies. Many technologists and commentators base their thinking on sophisticated, application-specific devices in the near future. There is little consideration about how existing technologies can be used to the same ends and even in exciting and useful new ways. Furthermore, there are only a small number of people examining how such technologies are effecting society as they become increasingly embedded in our daily lives. I feel this arena of research demands greater scrutiny by the Social Sciences, and that Human Geography provides a particularly interesting angle of approach.
