Based solely on the dates in Leigh Raymnent's peerage pages, it appears that Samuel Martin the Privy Counsellor was the same person as the Pontefract MP.

I take the coincidence of dates of death as high odds that they were the same person, but I can't be sure. In particular, it seems odd that a former MP should be appointed a Privy Counsellor more than 20 years after leaving Parliament, unless he had held some other office, such as a colonial governorship. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 10:50, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
