[edit] The same person

Based solely on the dates in Leigh Raymnent's peerage pages, it appears that Samuel Martin the Privy Counsellor was the same person as the Pontefract MP.

http://www.angeltowns.com/town/peerage/pcommons2.htm : Samuel Martin (died 9 Jan 1883) MP for Pontefract 1847–1851

http://www.angeltowns.com/town/peerage/02PrivyCouncils--UK.htm : Sir Samuel Martin (1801 – 9 Jan 1883) appointed a Privy Counsellor on 2 Feb 1874

I take the coincidence of dates of death as high odds that they were the same person, but I can't be sure. In particular, it seems odd that a former MP should be appointed a Privy Counsellor more than 20 years after leaving Parliament, unless he had held some other office, such as a colonial governorship. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 10:50, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
