Wanted Samoa so to gain power in Europe! I think this is a gross over statement of Samoa's strategic and military worth to Europe in the 1870's. This needs to be removed. I think what was meant was that colonisation was important to the German Empire as there was little territory free to colonise at the time so as to rank with other European powers (very, very different concepts).
